Fear from anaesthetics -My big day tomorrow 17dec2015

Recommended Posts

Yes. I hate it. I hate the feeling of struggling to regain consciousness. However, the good news is that it's only temporary. You will be fine. Believe it or not, for most patients gastric sleeve surgery is a breeze. It's plastics to remove excess skin that is the major, and most painful surgery to really worry about.

I have had many different surgeries in my lifetime. The anesthetic itself has never been my issue. I just never liked the idea of not being in control of myself. It also the same reason I never took up drinking or recreational drugs. Sometimes people say pretty ridiculous stuff coming out of anesthetic. When I had my first c-section, I came to while mimicking the sounds of the monitors in my room. Dit Dit Dit oint. Dit dit dit oint........over and over. I am sure doctors and nurses have some very amusing stories about us.

You will be fine, that's the easy part, you just take a nap and you wake up refreshed. I have been put under 3 times and in my mind I made such a big deal deal out of it and almost talked myself out of it but to be honest, anesthesia was the easiest part of the whole procedure. Relax, pray and know that we are praying for you and God got you. Listen to some encouraging words, try to laugh a lot and smile every chance you get this will help with your overall well being. God bless and see you when you are out of recovery!

I'm right there with you. The idea of someone making me fall asleep and then my life is in your hands creeps me out. But I figure people do it every day so I have to be strong and get over it.

Thank you all- this has been refreshing - now I can't weight to drop the pounds.

I had two c-sections before both were spinal only so I was awake during the surgery.

And I had the lap band and the way I was woken up I felt I was dead and brought back to live.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
