I ended up taking some meat and cheese roll-ups with me and ate on the way there and then on the way home as well.

That was always my approach in the early days. I tried to be as rigid as possible at first, just to give myself the best outcome possible.

At three years out, nothing is off limits. Except liver. I hate that ;)

Why bother having weight loss surgery with fried foods. That's setting you in to fail

I like your comment....everybody don't have to loose a lot of weight..and thanks for being cautious.

I had the surgery for things other than just the weight loss.

I seldom went to bars before surgery. When I looked at the menus, most of the foods are fried. I was asking so that I can prepare myself and make better choices. That's not setting myself up for failure; it's setting myself up to make the right choice with some advice from others.

I am 6 weeks out from surgery. I have a few events that will be happening at bars.

I have not tried fried foods yet, but I was thinking of getting the mozzarella sticks and just peeling off the breading. There are other options on the menus, but has anyone been able to eat breaded things successfully or do they cause issues because of the breading (ie: chicken wings)?

Tummy made of steel. Nothing offends. However I mostly avoid fried foods because it's a slippery slope for me. I have had grabbed the occasional 1 when with friends, but I will not order a full order for myself. I see reading the thread you figured out a work around. I would suggest in events like this carrying along a Protein bar in case of emergencies.

I'm having flashbacks to sitting at a bar and ordering "wings, hold the wings"! I've eaten an awful lot of celery and blue cheese dressing.

Now, fried food doesn't sound at all appealing to me.

My doctor told me to never eat celery because it is to hard for our small tummies to break down. It doesn't brother you?
Celery and raw veg in general don't bother me at all. I've had them since maybe 6 weeks post-op.
Stomach of steel like blerd girl as well. Like I am 8 weeks post op and can literally eat anything and it won't make me sick. However, some foods just feel heavier, fried foods being a big one.

My first eating out experience was a week ago. I ordered a small salad with grilled chicken. I mainly ate a few chicken pieces and had maybe 2 bites of veggies. The company that I was with ordered fried falafel as an appetizer. I caved and had a bite. I didn't even have a whole one and I felt guilty for 2 days. Fried food is also a slippery slope for me and it also opens up my cravings. I had to "detox" myself for two days because I kept wanting to eat fried stuff again.

I haven't gotten sick off of fried foods... Or any food for that matter. I had he fired cheese sticks before as something quick. I can only eat 1 though.

I'm almost 8 weeks post op. My tummy is very offended by anything with grease. I will vomit every time. And it seems everything we cook these days we use grease! Lol. I'm a little afraid to taste something's for the first time in public in case of a negative reaction, until the tummy becomes a little more agreeable.

Id take it slow.

I have noticed this going out to eat. THe other day I was at a 'bar' for a luncheon and there was literally nothing on their menu I could eat. EVERYTHING was deep fried. I finally opted for the only thing that wasn't fried- a hamburger without a fun.. but it was so greasy.. I ended up throwing it all up shortly after. It's only the second time I've thrown up post-op, but won't be eating at that place again. LOL

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
