Any reason not to get another band, since it seemed to be successful the first time? I am surprised that they would sign off on a drastic surgery like the sleeve for a 23 pound gain. Seems like taking a bazooka to a knife fight. That said, I think you would be hard pressed to lose 50 pounds, even with the sleeve. You would only lose what excess your body didn't need around. You may go under 150 temporarily until you recover from the first 2 months and start working out, but I can't see you losing 50 pounds and maintaining that kind of loss at 173lbs.

They say if a band has slipped for some reason the new band will slip also. I very happy to hear that you don’t think I’ll lose 50 pounds… that is my concern

Keep in mind that I am not a medical professional. When the Dr. cleared you, did you ask them if you would lose that much? It is my understanding that how much you lose depends on how much your body can stand to lose. So if you are not a super high BMI, you don't have as much to lose. Did you look into the requirements for your ins. to pay for it, since your BMI is so low?

You won't lose 50 pounds with the sleeve if you don't have 50 pounds to lose. Sleeve just offers restriction, the same way band does. It doesn't starve you to death. There is no reason you won't be able to eat enough calories to sustain a healthy weight, barring any complications.

I had the band for 2.5 years. It had to come out due to infection that started at the port site. My last year with the band was torturous....with pain, 2 surgeries to revise port, and a final surgery to take the band out. My surgeon offered the sleeve to me at time of removal, but I was so emotionally exhausted from my complications that I opted not to have a revision to the sleeve. 2 years and 80lbs later----I wish I would have taken his advice and gone with the revision to the sleeve. I am currently jumping through insurance hoops hoping to get the sleeve in February. This is just my personal experience. You might be much more capable of maintaining your weigh loss than me :)

My friend revised from the band to the sleeve. She only had 30 pounds to go and the insurance approve it since her band failed. BEST DECISION OF HER LIFE (according to her) and she looks and feels awesome. Anyway, hope everything works out for you!

I wish I had just done revision when my band first failed!

I had success with the band, losing 85 lbs and having 2-3 great years maintaining under 150 lbs... A slip and I spent 2 years of fills, unfills, fills followed by emergency unfills (twice), and finally a total unfill and empty band for 4 years. I gradually gained back every pound and then some... I would have had the revision at the first slip if I could do it differently.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
