I wholeheartedly agree with MichiganChic! It’s only a bad thing if you let it be one. I have a friend who, like LipstickLady, weighs herself several times a day and uses it for information. She likes to know if she’s dehydrated and by weighing herself many times, she’s learned her body’s patterns.

The key to success is whatever works for you. I personally don’t weigh often because it drives me crazy, but I do realize the powers that be say you “should” weigh daily, like MichiganChic says.

Anyway, enjoy your new habit. :)

There was a time I was embarrassed to get on the scale, also in denial as to what I would see...so I cannot tell you what my highest weight was since I would not get on the scale.< /p>

But now, I get on the scale first thing every morning when I'm in the bathroom....then a second time at the gym...each time is an excuse for celebration...a positive reinforcement to say the least.

Makes me feel good and ready to face the day...

Some (most?) of you have heard of the National Weight Control Registry. See http://www.nwcr.ws/

The NWCR is a database about thousands of people who have lost a considerable amount of weight any way they could lose it -- dieting, exercise, surgery, and probably through hypnosis, prayer and voodoo -- and (the good part) maintained their weight loss for at least one year. Some people have been part of the NWCR for many years.

Anyway, these thousands of people are, not surprisingly, a popular pool of people for researchers to study to learn what behaviors / attributes help people maintain their weight losses. They use other people who've regained their weight to compare and contrast those two groups' behaviors / attributes.

One of the salient findings to come out of that research is this: The people who maintain their weight losses don't ever change how often they weigh themselves. It doesn't matter how often they weigh themselves (daily, weekly, monthly, multiple times a day), weighing less often is associated with weight regain.

Obviously, we're talking correlation between these two variables, not ascribing cause/effect to them. Do we stop weighing ourselves when we start regaining weight? Or do we regain weight more readily when we stop weighing ourselves regularly?

I weigh every am but only record my weight once a week I like to see the fluctuation and try to understand what i eat and how it impacts the scale I can see too much salt with Fluid retention X

I weigh every morning and have since the seminar I went to on Jan 8,2015. This is when I started my journey. I know that some days my weight will go up or down. But on the days that I see it go up or stay the same are the days that I work harder at the gym or push myself. I sometimes weigh several times a day. I want to know how much Water I am drinking, how much my clothes weigh, my shoes, etc. The number on the scale is a lot smaller than it was when I first started and when it goes down I love seeing that my hard work is paying off. But either way, I know the weigh that I have dropped is not going to come back if I continue weighing everyday, because I push myself at the gym if the numbers go up.

With that being said I am all for weighing everyday!! Even if you are not losing it means you are not gaining and that is success, as you look at where you came from!!????

VSGAnn - good info. I know that before I had surgery, I would diet to lose to a goal weight and as soon as I got to the goal I regained due to a return to old eating habits (i.e., lots and lots of carbs). I would weigh myself less frequently because it was all spiraling out of control once again.

Post surgery, and still in the losing phase, I weigh myself once a week and once I get to maintenance I'm not really sure what the plan is except it will remain once a week or more often. This time around I feel I can stay low carb for the duration and plan to keep a tighter control on it. I'm a bit surprised that I don't crave carbs and this a good thing because I think my body is expert at storing carbs as fat and it took a long time for me to figure this out.

But like so many on this site, I have the fear of regain because it always happened in the past.

I was weighing myself almost every, OK every day, for my first month and I have started to lay off a bit. I wanted to see the number drop as everyone was telling me they could see the weight loss but I couldn't see it.

Thanx all for your kind words and advice.

After sitting at 2.4kg (5.3 pounds) from the milestone of 100kg (220 pounds) lost for the past few days, I've now decided to put the scales away for a while..

I've just read another post by someone who is in a similar situation - Seemingly stalling at the most unfortunate of times...

It's reassuring that it's not a personal thing between the universe and me..

Oh well...

The celebratory tattoo will have to wait a little longer...

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
