Take a cleanse

Recommended Posts

I am 9 months post op sleeve and I feel like I'm starting to slip back into my old ways. I was looking for a cleanse of some sorts to restart my body that is safe post op sleeve. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't believe in cleanses. How most people use the term cleanse it means to de-toxify. For the majority of the population your liver and kidneys do that job just fine.

However semantics aside, I do believe that getting a reset on your habits isn't a bad thing. Start with re-reading your program's eating recommendations and go back to tracking everything. I know a few people that will do a '5 day pouch test'. Essentially it is going back to the full liquids portion stage for 5 days.

Def by cleanse I meant detoxify and restart, not laxatives. Just want to rid my body of any sugars and the bad things I've been putting in. I know my material in and out. My husband had surgery almost three years ago so we're veterans. I did hear of the pouch test but was look for more of a drink I guess

From my experience, around 8-9 months post op was the exact time for me that the "honeymoon" phase kind of wore off. I was getting sick of eating the same foods (I stuck to the plan religiously), I have extremely rapid weight loss from sticking to the plan so closely and I was nearing goal so the novelty of that was wearing off, and my disordered eating voice was starting back up in my head. So, I completely understand. This is also the time I started going to weekly therapy to deal with the issues underlying my eating issues because it scared the crap out of me that I was starting to slip. I can happily say that since then I've lost a bit more weight and maintained for the last year and a half since then. You will be fine. Just make sure you get it in check now and do whatever you have to do to get back in the mindset you need to be in . I think that doing something similar to the 5-day pouch test can do wonders for breaking any sugar/carb habits you've re-developed, or just reinforce the importance of getting back to the basics (Water, Protein, etc). It also helps to return any level of restriction you might feel lke you're "losing" and to break the sugar/carb craving cycle. Good luck!!

I am just over 7 months and haven't hit that yet, but I have heard of good things with the 5 day pouch test. Checking in with nutritionist is also good.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
