What to do about extended release capsule medications?

Recommended Posts

Your surgeon HAS to work with you on this - don't take "no" for an answer.

I agree. the surgeon needs to weigh in on this. The issue is 2 fold; can you swallow the pill and will the smaller tummy be able to break down the capsule so that it can be absorbed.

@@talking mountain - this is a subject that a professional (doctor) needs to answer from what I read here :/

Don't wait until the 17th of December - call now!

Contact the pharmacist too, they may be able to help as well.

I was taken off all my extended release medicines and in fact even my pain medicine had to be switched to a patch. Not all people have issues but my surgeon, my PM and my PCP didn't take any chances; they worked with me through trial and error finding alternatives to ER drugs I was on prior to surgery.

I would do some Googling, talk to your PCP or prescribing physician about ANY and all ER drugs you are currently taking.

It is crazy to me that everyone keeps bringing up the size of the pill when there is a bigger issue at play.

Just thought I'd share what I found out about the extended release Effexor. Turns out the person to ask was my pharmacist!

She said to open the capsule and take the innards (little tiny balls) with a little applesauce or something similar.

She said to be sure to swallow ALL the little balls and drink plenty of water; and to be careful enough not to bite on (and thus bust open) the little balls inside the capsule.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
