Since my fill I've PB'd twice

Recommended Posts

I got my 1st fill last Thursday and began regular foods on Saturday. Since then I've PB'd twice and nearly every meal I've eaten I feel like something is getting stuck. Is this normal? Am I eating the wrong foods? I chew and chew but still things feel like they are getting stuck. Is this the feeling of restriction? Or is restriction the feeling of being full. I still don't really know when I'm full.

I don't want to make my band slip- do I need to avoid PB'ing as much as possible or do I need to get my band unfilled a bit?

Thanks for the info-- i'm still really new at this stuff!

Here's a thread (there are many) that explains what a PB is: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f7/what-does-pbd-mean-3469/

I had the same experience after my 2nd and 3rd fills....increased PBing and more adjustments to what and how I eat! If you are getting that stuck feeling at every meal you're probably just still irritated from the fill and PB's. Take it easy for a day or so and stick to fluids and mushies. Then introduce solids again, but go very slow. Stay with safe foods like fish, cooked vegetables, melons, things like that. AND CHEW CHEW CHEW....and WAIT WAIT WAIT between bites. I bet you'll be much better in another few days but that first week or two after a fill can be a bit tricky. Remember this next time you get a fill, too!

Finallythin,

I too had my first fill last Thursday. I've PB'd a few more times than I'd like. It's like starting all over, learning what can be eaten and what can't. Grapes were fine last Wednesday...today they are a big no no. I'm finding that if I really take me time and chew a lot it's a bit easier. But this is a huge change from last week.

I haven't PBd yet, but earlier when I had a bite stuck I was HOPING for it just to get it up and out of me!!

I know whatcha mean. Had my surgery June 20th and have PB'd a time or two. What a weird feeling that is,, you know its coming on as soon as you swallow something but the odd thing is, you might have just ate the same thing and had no problems. For me it is eating too fast and not chewing enough I think. Ya'll have that same problem?

I PB'd a couple of times before my first fill yesterday. It was always when I wasnt paying attention and ate too fast or too big of a bite. Since my fill yesterday, I've stayed with mushie stuff. The great thing is...I AM FULL on 3/4 pack of oatmeal!!! YES!!!! The doc said the fullness may only last a few days, but I'll take it!

How are you doing now finallythin?

My family and I just returned from Disneyland and I PB'd nearly every meal I ate. I'm concerned this will make my band slip. Any idea if it will?? I do not feel restriction and I'm wondering if this is because I'm eating too fast so I do feel full? How is everyone else doing? I'm coming up on my 2 month anniversay..I want to be down to 255 by my next fill on 8/16 I've got a lot of work to do to get there though...:cry

If you are PBing every meal, you certainly ARE feeling restriction!

It is hard to eat properly at Disneyland, isn't it? Seems like you're always in a hurry and people want you to hurry up so you can go on to the next thing. Also, your 'stress' level is increased. Probably not eating the right things either.

Why don't you call your doctor and discuss it with his nurse? They might advise a slight unfill....at least for a while.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
