Not feeling full?

Recommended Posts

Hi, so i just had a question for you guys that had the lap band for a couple of years or just know!?

But I recently just got the lapband on November 4th, so I am still pretty new to this journey! And couldn't be more excited!

My question is that is it normal to not feel full anymore when you eat? And not to even want to eat (nothing sounds good) or (stomach says no?) and when it says no do you still do it?

5 Years now, and I have never felt full....that is a physical feeling.

What I do have is my brain telling me I'm full, as though I were...simply cannot, and do not want to continue eating. Yes, nothing sounds good, or desirable. It is more mental for me.

A lot of people here say they feel full from the band...I never had that feeling, to do so would mean I would have to eat more than I should...and when I do that I feel pain....(pouch stretching?) ....not very pleasant.

But then, that's just me...other people have different experiences ftrom what I read.

My experience is that if I eat correctly (a BIG if) I can stop before full. Correctly means slowly and chewed thoroughly and tiny bites of Protein. Not carbs. Protein. Slow. Chewed well. Tiny. Slow. Chewed well.

If I don't eat correctly and I'm eating protein, I get stuck.

If I do eat correctly, I can then feel a soft stop. A soft stop is a signal that I've had enough. Eating more would be eating too much. My soft stops are: a sigh or deep breath, burp or a hiccup. Other people report that their nose starts to run.

I have had good hunger satiety since surgery. Hungry at mealtime. I haven't felt full in 20 months. I sure don't miss that full feeling. I've eaten too much (always carbs) but not to the point of being full. Eating too much or eating carbs has stopped my weight loss. Removing those from my diet will return me to weight loss. I'm working on it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
