I just came from the store and I couldn't find any of the sugar-free bread and butter pickles, gosh darnit! But my baby dills were on sale so I stocked up. :)

I love pickles! They’re about as devoid of nutrition as it gets (a little salt with your acid, anyone?), but they’re awfully good! I love them plain, in egg white salad, dill pickles, sugar-free sweet pickles, in salads (sorry, I love Subway salads with pickle slices), and pretty much any time.

I could eat them pretty soon after surgery, but that’s because I just had the lap-band. Maybe a month or so post-op? It’s been a while.

Do you guys eat the skin of the pickle? I had gastric bypass 10/7 I had a pickle the other day didn't chance the skin.

I'm still prep but I intend to eat the skins or I won't be able to have my baby dills. Mmmm. I hope I can tolerate them.

I ate at least 2 jars a week Mt olive Kosher Dills. I absolutely loved pickles. Got one 2 days ago first time since WLS I gagged as soon as I stuck it in my mouth I couldnt bring myself to chew it. It kinda bummed me out. My tastes have sure changed

I love pickles too and stare at the jar in my fridge daily thinking I can't wait to have them again. I have another week before Im on soft foods and I almost gave in last night. I've also craved some green olives. Why do we have to wait so long to have raw fruits and veggies? The acid or sugar in them??

Early in the process (weeks after surgery) it's primarily about texture. Raw fruits and vegetables are hard, rough, jagged, and just generally hard to digest. We are on liquids and soft foods so we can heal from major surgery. Don't rush it. You will get to eat raw fruits and vegetables eventually. You need to give your digestive tract time to heal.

I've read a lot of posts on here and I can honestly say I have not strayed from my post op diet at all. I fight every urge, craving, past time etc b/c I have one chance to do this right and get the most out of it. You're right. All the things I'm looking forward to again will be worth the wait and give me a greater appreciation for food instead of overindulging in it. Patience, grasshopper!

Just had my first gherkin today. My tummy was doing happy dance after that. Never was a fan of pickles prior to surgery. Taste buds are changing after surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
