Setting Realistic Goal

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on what to expect. Because I have been obese my whole life, I have no idea what I should weigh. I would be interested in hearing about how much those of you that are a year or two out have lost. I know we are all different. I never talked about goals with my surgeons office.

I am 61 years old and had an rny on June 24th. Pre-surgery weight was 318. Current weight is 236. So I'm down 82 lbs. Yay, not complaining! I am only 5'1". What can I hope for? I think my lowest adult weight ever was around 210 when I was 15.. I really wish I could get to 150. Is that unrealistic ? How have others done that kinda have similar stats??

Don't know what to expect...

Congrats on the major loss! I am interested in hearing what others have to say. Today is day one of a supervised diet before insurance will approve so I still have a long way to go.

Wow you have done amazing on your pre op weight loss!! Congrats.

I am almost a year and a half post

Op and I started at 271 and I am now between 141-146. I am completely happy at this weight so I have been in maintenance for the last six months.

My surgeon never talked about a goal with me and I didn't have a particular number either. I just waited until I felt amazing and was content.

On my last appointment with my surgeon I told him that I should probably try and lose more and he said that I should be happy where I am at because I am healthy, fit and happy.

So now I am chasing life experiences instead of a scale number.

The point of all that rambling was to say.... You will probably figure out your goal weight as you progress.

Good luck on your surgery!!

Thanks, yes, my weight at surgery was 318. I have always wondered what it would feel like to be "normal", whatever that is. To think that weight loss is becoming a reality is a lot to wrap my head around. Ive been praying my whole life to lose weight and it is now happening.

I'll be happy to learn what normal will be for me. I know it's not gonna be a number and like you said it's the experience of living life in a new way with a new attitude that is gonna be the measurement of my success.

I just wondered how others have done. It's been 61 years.. So it's hard to "imagine".

Oh and I love John Lennon too! ????

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
