Ok so I am 1 day post-op and really uncomfortable but everything that happens (grumbling in stomach, pinching feelings, tightness in chest) makes me think there is something wrong. I have been eating sugar free popsicles, broth, so forth but will those liquids make me feel full, because I am afraid to keep drinking thinking the liquid is gonna fill up my pouch..have any one ya'll worried about these things or am I just nuts?

OMG you are soooooo normal. :welcomeB: to LBT, BTW and congrats on being banded.

Spend some time, look around and you will find that you are very very normal. Go ahead and SIP away (do not gulp or chug), lots of nutritionists (nuts) give guidelines that 8 oz in an hour is good for the first few days to a week post-op. Remember every person's doc and nut have different reccommendations. You need to follow what yours says.

Yoo may experience a time in the next few days that you ask yourself why did I do this? You may say that you want it out! You may get depressed and not know why, this is all very common. Lots of folks really mourn their food. I know I did and I do.

You will likely always make some gurgles it's totally normal, and later on down the line, you'll still burp, too. Also normal.

Aloha and welcome to band land, I'm one week post today and you are so normal it's funny, not to you of course, you might think your going to die or have a heart attack but your just fine. When through it just last week you'll be just fine, hang in there and remember sip-sip-sip that Water and keep using the Protein Drinks and walk, walk, walk and then walk some more it will help with the gas pains. Liquid Tylenol extra strength really works good also.

take care and ALOHA

OMG, thank you for such a gracious welcoming! I will try the 8oz in a hour. I know that I have been drinking much less. Off topic, the doc prescribed me a colace substitute and wOw is it the worst thing I have ever tasted (kinda like Dial soap with water) and I cannot deal with this nasty stuff, any other suggestions for Constipation would really be appreciated! THANKS.

Here's a tip for the Constipation (that seems inevitable), go get some Gerber baby Apple Prune juice. It comes in 4 oz bottles, it is clear and it's the perfect size. I drank one per day until I could have pureed/mushies, now I eat a jar of baby food prunes a day. It helps IMMENSELY and it tastes pretty darned good.

Hey that's a great suggestion for the baby food prunes. I really don't think it's healthy to be constipated all the time, and it's definitely a side effect from all the Protein.< /p>

Faithmd- I couldn't agree with you more. Immediately after waking up from surgery I felt sad, and I remember crying and saying I wish I never did this. It would have been nice if my drs would have told me that most patients go thru this type of behavior. A week later I was loving my band!!! You gave some great advice. :)

And what's up with the burping? I was banded March 21st and I still find that at times I can burp for like minutes. I don't eat fast, nor do I drink anything when I eat, so I know it's not that. Faithmd, any suggestions? Is that considered normal?

Hi all I'm post op i day, too and am really sore! I feel the tightness in the chest, but am feeling heartburn. Any of you got the heartburn. I've been sticking to chicken broth, Jello, and Kellogs 2o drinks. I'm walking, too, but still feel really sore. Please tell me things get better and how soon should I expect it to get better???

Welcome to the lap world. I am one month post op and I will tell you the first week was tough. I had heard how people went back to work after two days, but I really thought I would have needed a full week to 10 days off. I am a teacher, so I didn't need to worry about that.

I agree with everything Faith said. Walking really does help with the pain. I thought for sure the pains could not be gas, but after about 5 days I was much better. Also, flapping your arms like wings helped me. It seemed to move some of the shoulder pains.

I have never taken anything for Constipation, and I don't really notice a problem.

Best of luck! You will feel so much better in a week!

The burping is very normal. Many people have it I've heard. I think it depends on many factors, position on the stomach of the band, what food you eat, are you gassy normally, how much air you tend to swallow, etc.

I was really sore for about 10 days. And still nearly a month later, I get "twinges" of pain around my port when I twist a certain way or if I lift and twist at the same time. It DOES get better. Time is a great healer.

My surgeon's group is VERY proactive in protecting your stomach and your band. For example, I was given Reglan (to increase GI motility) and a suppository AND a patch for behind my ear for nausea. I also was started on Prevacid for stomach acid and that I will take for at least a year. You could try some liquid like Gaviscon for the heartburn.

A friend of mind had the band and this is what she used:

Perdiem Fiber Therapy Bulk Forming Laxative Caplet Formula

Check with your doctor to make sure this is ok for you.

I feel just like you and I also was banded on 7/17/07. Glad to hear we are doing fine - normal is good!!

Relax. What you are feeling is normal. The tight feeling is from the gas. If you are suppose to be on liquuids keep drinking and eating those popsicles and sugar free Jello. It's important to keep hydrated and to stay on liquids in ordr for your surgery and stomach to heal. It's only been one day and you did have major surgery, cut yourself a break! you ae doing fine.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
