Gaining B4 Losing?

Recommended Posts

So I have my surgery date for August 3 and I will start my preop diet 7/23 but I'm still worried about the weight that I've managed to gain since my consultation. I know it is between 5 and 7 lbs after my week long vacation on the beach and having the mind set that I won't be eating for about 6 weeks I've been a little out of control. Did anyone else have the problem of gaining between consultation and surgery? Will I still be okay as long as I strictly follow my preop diet?

ok, first thing is first. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO EAT AGAIN!!!! I think that so many people freak at the thought of not being able to eat again, that they just shove in food just to do it!! You will eat again, and it will all be good. Mark my word!!! Be true on your pre op diet, that is important. Do it for yourself!! It will give you a great feeling of accomplishment that you did it!!!

Don't worry too much about weight loss. If your insurance company doesn't care you shouldn't. Just eat and stop when you are full. The preop diet is to shrink your liver. You may only lose 5 - 10 lbs on it. You will be okay with that. Good luck.

Yes, thank you, I have been doing the same thing, thinking oh, I better heat that popcorn or peanuts, cuz who knows when I will do it again. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
