Artballer eating during the liquid diet raises the risk of your liver not shrinking enough which raises the risk of them having to do the surgery open or worse aborting the surgery completely. Definitely stick with it, it's temporary for your future.

hcslvarado, I start with a Protein Shake in the am w 8 oz unsweetened almond milk if I have a "snack" before lunch time it's either sugar free Jello or sugar free popsicle, lunch is generally beef broth or strained chicken noodle Soup. Followed by a second shake for dinner. My nutritionist wants min 65 grams of Protein a day and no less then 65 oz of fluids a day. It's very boring and bland I've heard of people putting Unjury flavorless protein in there broth so they don't have to do just shakes ( I highly recommend because after day 3 of them I couldn't even stand the smell. ) unjury sells a sample pack on there website for $21 has multiple flavors. I was scared of the liquid diet as well, I have very little will power when it's come to my cravings in the past. I personally have to look at what the biggest thing I want to do after losing the weight is, for me that's getting married so I look up wedding dresses every craving I have. You guys will do great! Day 3 was my hardest is gotten a little easier every day since.

I'm having my surgery November 23rd! My pre opp evaluation is tomorrow and I'm a little nervous. My liquid diet isn't going very well, I have lots of questions and hopefully they will get answered tomorrow and hopefully today isn't too late to truly start the liquid diet. It all just seems so gross to me!! Any words of advice ? Encouragement ?

You can do it, Marcee! Day 1 was bad, Day 2 was awful, but I feel like I really turned a corner on Day 3 and am adjusting to the Protein Shakes. Who knows how the rest of the week will go, but I keep telling myself I can do ANYTHING for a week.

This process is really difficult, but it's an investment in yourself: in your self-discipline, in your health, and in the success of your surgery. It really sucks right now but we'll probably be thrilled we did it in the long run (at least I hope so haha.)

I read that the liquid diet is most difficult until ketosis sets in and you lose the desire to eat normally. Carbs and sugar postpone ketosis and make the process more miserable, so cheating does you much more harm and causes more strife in the long run. That's what I tell myself when I drive by Dunkin every morning and that coffee calls out to me. ;)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
