Calories in versus calories burned

Recommended Posts

So I'm very confused I am six months in and of lost 108 pounds which is great. But the last six weeks weight-loss is been very slow. I know that I am certainly eating more than I was before but I am also working out and burning more calories. I don't take in more than 1000 cal in a day. And I'm eating very healthy. No fried food no bread no Pasta no rice. On the average day I burn between 11 and 1500 cal and exercise. How could be that I'm not still losing weight. Am I not taking enough calories in and starting my body. Any help would be appreciated

Congratulations on the weight loss! It sounds like you are doing great.

Our bodies are complex systems, not simple machines. Slow downs and stalls are all part of the process.

Have you talked with your NUT? Are you still getting in all of your Protein and fluids? (A red flag for me is when I see a post like yours that focuses on calories but doesn't mention protein.)

I would say you stay the course, but you might want to talk with your NUT to make sure you are getting in all the nutrition you need for your activity level.

Sounds perfectly normal. I realized around 8 or 9 months in I had to work a little harder to continue to lose. It may just be you are nearing the end of that honeymoon period where the weight practically falls off. If you are still losing, even if it's a bit slower than previously, stay the course. It may just be your body adjusting. It would be nice it weight loss was a linear process. It's not, there are slow downs, stops, stalls and occasionally even small gains.

If you are really concerned, call your nutritionist. If they say everything is fine, just hang in there. It sounds like you're doing well!

Thanks for the replies. Yes I spoke with my nutritionist who more or less said increase your Water and activity. I drink a minimum of 64 and more like 96 ounces of water a day. I also taken at least 70 g and trying to go for 100 g of Protein. I guess it's all part of the process and I would just keep at it

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
