Waiting on scheduling to call

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is Dr. Cottam in SLC, UT. The system they use sucks! I have been in the scheduling block for 2 days now and still haven't gotten a call to schedule surgery. I want to call them sooo bad to see if I can get scheduled. I'm afraid that if I call it will irritate them and get pushed further back. I've heard of this happening or rather it's the accusation that some have. I don't know if it's worth taking the risk to call. Has anyone else used them?

I know the waiting can really make you anxious especially when you are as ready to go as you seem.

I personally would give them a call and kill them with kindness. Explain that you are trying to make plans around your date. As I am sure you are.

I am certain you have been through a lot to get to this point and the way you are feeling is normal.

I made the mistake of waiting almost 3 weeks then finally called and up the nurse that processes the insurance packets had been on vacation and never submitted mine to insurance at all. I got pissed and explained that I needed to get my date in for that year (last year). I spent the morning crying because I wanted to get going.

She apologized up and down submitted to insurance that morning and by 2pm I got a call back with an approval and a date for my surgery.

Then I spent the afternoon crying happy tears.

I really wished I had called that first week.

I would call. Good luck and keep us posted on your date.

That sucks. I would call. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

My date was scheduled a month in advance however they will call me the day before with my time.

I called them and she said once you are in the scheduling block it takes 3 to 5 business days to get a call. So hopefully I'll have a date by Friday. If not, I will call first thing Monday morning and demand to talk to the scheduler.

Good luck! I got my date today! Nov. 9th! Just when I completely gave up thinking about it, it happened! So glad I didn't have as long a wait between approval and scheduling! I'm sure it's very nerve wracking!

Hi! I am using their office, too. My surgeon is Dr Richards. They are always so busy! I'm glad you called them. I'm still in my 90-day pre-op period. That will be done this next month. I need to be scheduled before the end of the year because my insurance is changing. Good luck and we should stay in touch!

I called them again just now and she said I'm on the list to be called next week to get a date. She said she'd tell Julie, the scheduler that I called. Maybe they will just call me today to get me to quit calling! I can't be the only PITA though!

I have completed everything and waiting on a surgery date. This will make week 3 the first week nurse was on vacation. I don't want to become a stalker but I'm excited and anxious. I have been trying to get this done for 2 years now and I have finally made it this far. I know I should be patient and try to get my mind off of it, but I'm stalking my phone like a teenager lol.

I am doing the same with my phone! It's awful but the excitement is taking over! Who is your Dr and where?

Having dealt with a hospital this summer (my wife had a surgical procedure), make sure to hold their feet to the fire. If they say they're going to call you in 3-5 days, give them a jingle in day 4 just to check in, and then during day 5 call them a couple of times. Always be friendly; they understand and expect the anxiety and anticipation around surgery. As long as you aren't rude, they won't be.

Two out of the three surgeries my wife had required me calling around because they said they were going to call 24h before surgery, but had I not called, she probably would be still waiting.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
