I've been hearing over and over from my docter and nurses not to drink from a straw. Something about the air that you take in going to your pouch. Is this true? I've been too scared to even get near a straw since I was banded last week. And I'm definitly one of those girly girls who has to drink threw one when I'm out at a restaurant. Has anybody been able to drink threw a straw after a bit of time or is that something that's simply off limits?

I use a straw when I want, no problems. I don't like drinking out of cans or in a restaurant without one. Just sip, don't gulp. Ja9

I use straws all the time and I don't have any problems. Just try it and see how it works for you!

Exactly. Take everything in stride and see how it works!!!

Straws for me. No problems. Just be careful you don't take too big of sips because straws are deceiving and can make you drink faster. Plus, remember for optimum results no drinking 20-30 minutes prior and after a meal, so why the need for any straw at all?

the lap band may be the LAST STRAW for most of us, but it's not the "last straw..." :)

I didn't use a straw for the first couples of weeks after surgery. I think you will have to use trail and error in most of what we do after surgery so that we can find out what we can and can't tolerate. I did try a straw week 3 and the shoulder pain came. I will probably try just to see if my stomach is okay with it now.

I used a straw for the first 3 months, until anotherbanster told me not to. I've been without one since then. I'm beginning to believe that after becoming an experienced bandster, you can tell for yourself what is wise and what isn't, but it's probably good to be pretty strict about things until you are restricted and experienced with your restriction.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
