Tomorrow marks one week post op! Purée food ideas?

Recommended Posts

I don't get to have purees til week 4. But I honesty did canned chicken, measured it then put it into little containers and froze it. I have pureed carrots/ broccoli/ cauliflower. I was told to cook veggies before pureeing if you are not freezing. Or canned, it'll be easier on sleeve.

I'm counting down til Thurs to have creamed soups!

My pureed food stage was brief.... couple days. As long as it is tolerated well, my dr moves his patients to soft foods. I had a difficult time eating enough Protein, so there wasn't room for vegetables then. Even now, a couple ounces of chicken/fish and I am full. I did use some baby applesauce. Tried Cream of Wheat twice, and it was uncomfortable going down. I may have made it too thick. Otherwise, Greek Yogurt, cottage cheese, sugar free puddings....all worked well. I am over 4 weeks now and I can eat almost anything if I chew it well. I just don't have room for alot.

I am moving into pureed consistency foods this weekend. Tofu is a good source of Protein. The silky tofu can be added to shakes. The firm and extra firm can be marinated, pan seared, among other ways of cooking. I will be using tofu, tuna, homemade chicken (soaked in buttermilk at least overnight to keep it very tender), refried Beans and unflavored Protein Powder for my protein sources. I will try eggs a few different ways (poached seems to have the highest success rate among sleevers) and hope I can tolerate them.

I'll also be using Greek yogurt, applesauce (with the protein powder, and cottage cheese.< /p>

I plan to make a sandwich paste (like chicken or tuna salad but pureed) and include flavor from onions, pickles, etc. I plan to use salsa with cooking as well for some added flavor. Maybe some plain Greek yogurt for some flavor and protein too.

Refried Beans were my favorite thing. I looked forward to them all day and that was my supper. I still like them and eat them once in a while when I don't have anything else prepared.

Greek yogurt was a fav too and I still eat that daily.

KarenLoh,

Did you mix them with anything? I've heard people use salsa, cheese, and sour cream.

Going to have refried Beans for dinner for the first time. I'm a week out. I'm excited and scared at the same time!

Refried Beans don't cause gas? I bought some today - I'm 3 weeks out today - but too scared to eat them yet.

Had cottage cheese and also some instant pudding made with nonfat Fairlife milk and 1 1/2 scoops of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder ( for the whole box). Pretty boring dinner - basically like a thicker version of shakes. :(

A couple of things I learned:

1-dry milk is more heat stable than unflavored Protein Powder (I added it to cream soups) so be careful when adding the Protein powder to hot foods.

2-add at least double what you think you need of the moisture component when blending drier meats like tuna or chicken

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
