Drinking water 1 week post op

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I make 1 week since sugery I have been able to have 4 oz of clear liquid and full liquid but when it comes to Water I feel it's such a challenge has any one gone through that. Is there and tips to help me drink more water?

Today is my 6th day since surgery.

The first couple of days it was work to get 2-3 24oz cups of icewater down.

The last two days, however, I seem to be able to drink as much as I want. I'm up and walking to the bathroom every hour.

The key has been to have a glass within reach at all times. I continue to take small swallows all day. It is very natural and occurs easily.

Water was harder for me at first too. Try different temperatures:cold, room temperature, warm, and see if any of those works better. I had better luck with room temperature Water. You might also want to turn adding water enhancers like crystal light, Mio drops, or even infusing it with lemon, cucumber, mint, or something similar. You can also try making Decaf tea or an herbal infusion (herb tea).

Just keep trying. sugar-free hello and sugar-free Popsicles can also help you get your fluids in, too.

It does get better.

Water enhancers helped immensely. You may also be more comfortable with room temperature water at this point as ice cold water can cause cramping.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
