PO day 4 - GERD pain

I am post op day 4 and I think I am starting to have a terrible time with GERD. Today was my first day without pain meds. I have been taking Prilosec and Zofran and I feel miserable.I am not having any surgical pain, just chest pain (Not heart related) I started full liquids on day 2, but I am lucky if I get 1-1.5 11oz Protein shakes in. Today I have been horrible about Water intake because it hurts. Any suggestions from anyone?

Early post op I got pain in my chest too when I drank. I experimented with different kinds and temperatures of fluids. What worked for me was very cold propel water. Some people do better with warm.

I also put my fluids in a medicine cup and made each one last for three tiny tiny sips and that helped with the pain.

I still can't drink plain water and I am almost a year and half post op.

Best of luck to you

Just go slow. It takes a good 5 - 7 days for the meds to get into your system and kick in. Just keep sipping slowly. If at the 10 day mark things don't change ask your doctor for something stronger.

I am 2 months out and still have terrible gerd, I got meds for it and is helping. some people have it for for life after surgery...ugg

I had it horribly.... I woke up burping up acid. I was told to double my Omeprazole to a dose in the morning and a dose in the evening. Did the trick. Now at 7 months I just take one daily.
