  2. It sounds like what your husband had is called an ilieus. What that means is that his bowels were very slow to wake up after surgery and he had the NG tube put in to get out what he was unable to poop out. This is actually more common that you think. It has nothing to do with the type of surgery you have but more with the amount of movement/nonmovement while recovering. Your bladder and your bowels are the last to wake up from surgery. It is not very fun to go through. The one thing that I can recommend to anyone having any type of surgery is to move, sit up in a chair or at the very least sit up in bed if doctor's allow it.
  3. I am post op day 4 and I think I am starting to have a terrible time with GERD. Today was my first day without pain meds. I have been taking Prilosec and Zofran and I feel miserable.I am not having any surgical pain, just chest pain (Not heart related) I started full liquids on day 2, but I am lucky if I get 1-1.5 11oz Protein shakes in. Today I have been horrible about Water intake because it hurts. Any suggestions from anyone?

  5. I am post op day 3 today and I am starting on protein shakes. How long is it supposed to take me to drink on 11 oz pre made protein shake? I do have some discomfort when I swallow but nothing that is too tough to deal with.
  6. Hello....I am post op day 3. I am starting to feel human today. I only spent one night in the hospital. Came home and went to bed. Only got out of bed to pee. My pain is under control, but I do think I am having some reflux problems. I did have a hernia repaired and the doc told me that may cause some discomfort and to take it slow. I am starting Protein shakes today. I hope I can handle them okay. Good luck to everyone!
  7. I am an RN on an orthopedic floor. My doctor said 3 weeks. I was sleeved 2 days ago. 10/12/15. Good luck to you!
