i'm having my surgery in a few days so this thread is really helpful to me.

i asked my nutritionist about using a sippy cup and she said no since we're not supposed to use a straw and she likened it to sucking on a straw.

i have a question: how long before I can swim?

my dr. said not to submerge in Water and i forgot to ask how long. i can ask him on thursday i guess but i thought y'all might know.

it's interesting to read everyone's experiences. today is day #6 of the liquid diet for me. i can't wait to be able to have some food. lol

i know it's going to be a while. i'm ok til i smell someone cooking something wonderful. when i go walking is when i usually smell it.

Hi,

I just had my surgery on the 27th of August. I know what you mean about getting into a confortable postition.. I sleep on the couch for now and that is as confortable it is going to get until I can situate myself on the bed.

I eat all foods that are pureed..Tuna, oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Turkey or chicken in the can..I make it with a little low fat mayo and put it through the food processor. That is alot better than eating all liquids..

I have to eat Protein first. I also take 2 Protein Shakes a day.

Just ask your doc if you can do that.

Lots of Luck,

Pat

It's now day 9 and I feel worlds better! I'm hungry now though. The creamy liquids are more satisfying but don't stay with me long. I've read through several other threads about that and it appears that others don't limit themselves to the portions. I've only been doing about six oz at a time but others are consuming as much as they want. I'm not sure what the right thing to do is... Cream of chicken and Herb Soup is the best so far. My daughter just brought me some broccoli & cheese Soup that I'm sure will be very satisfactory! Most of my discomfort is gone, I'm sleeping on my stomach already, and I'm enjoying this three day weekend of rest. Hope I can stick to liquids a whole 'nother week!

:clap2:Hello All,

There is a tasteless Protein call whey. This can be mixed in anything you want. You will get your protein in whatever you eat or drink and you will like it because you choose what you put it in. Whether it be crystal lite, juice, yogurt, etc. You can buy this at GNC.< /p>

I will get some tomorrow! I can't STAND sweet stuff and that vanilla whey Protein almost makes me gag. I've tried everything. Being able to add it to everything will make like so much simpler! Thank you!!!

HI

Yep, I'm 3 days post op and love to drink fluids. This is way different than pre-op. What I find is working for me, is room temperature liquids, or warm, taking sips at about 1-2 tsp size. Sit up, stay sitting up. Sometimes walking around afterwards helps. My dr. said there will be swelling around the band from day 3-5 so I'm hoping the drinking problems are short lived.

Hi all!

I am also finally able to sleep on my stomach-1 week post-op, and have advanced to the sugar free full liquid diet, thank goodness. I was on only Clear Liquids plus one Protein Shake a dayfor the first week, and it was rough by the end of the week. I had a carnation instant Breakfast today, and plan to have some cream of potato Soup, blended, for dinner. Yum! I've never been so excited to eat soup!

Elaine- I wondered the same thing as you-whether you can eat as much of the foods on your list, or if your portions are limited. My doc did not specify. I am trying not to overdo it.

Do you have any specific guidelines about how much you can drink at a time...ex. 1 oz. every 15 minutes? I was not told anything like that, but I can drink my shake fairly quickly, although I try to go slow. I was wondering if I could stretch my pouch or do other damage by drinking too quickly. I haven't experiences excess gas or any other problems after drinking.

Thanks!

~Jen

I'm having all kinds of gas but it's not uncomfortable. From everything I read it's common. Lots of unpleasant bathroom trips but I suffer from irritable bowel syndrome so that's nothing new to me. I haven't been taking anything for it because I think it's mostly from the all liquid diet. I don't think the liquids will stretch anything because they pass straight through and there's no restriction right now anyway. Overall, I feel so much better!

I hear that lots of people have the same bathroom problem you are having...I am having the exact opposite problem. I am not uncomfortable or anything, but I have barely gone in the past 2 weeks. I figured that it was because I have not really been eating. Sorry for TMI!

Back to work tomorrow!

Hi All,

Got my band on Friday, August 31st. Today I feel real good. Over the weekend the gas pains were pretty bad. I felt like I was 9 months pregnant. Those pains are going away slowly but surly. So far I haven't been hungry but am really looking forward to having some cottage cheese and yogurt.

Best to all who just got banded.

Karen

I just cannot believe your doctor!!! I could use up this whole space ranting about him, but this is about you, not him. I am 7 days out from surgery. Thank goodness I love Soups. Although I love those loaded with potatoes, etc., not this broth stuff.

I look at it like this; whatever it takes!!! I will endure the broths, Jello, all the "nothing foods". I had years of eating the other stuff. Today, I actually walked into AppleBees for carry out. I got their broc. cheese Soup. I put it in my blender and added Water to thin down. Believe me, it was a treat. Torture to walk into AppleBees though.

You can do this. Use this site. I could not do it without all the friends I have made here. If you need us, just post a note. Someone will answer soon.

Claramae, that was well said! I'm getting hungry now and I'm wanting Whataburger and Church's and all the stuff I've been eating for lunch for years... You are SO RIGHT! I've had years of that crap; time to eat the damn Soup and get over it. I'm sticking to the Soups even though I'm craving carbs and the fats. I'll be DAMNED if I fail at this. Thanks Claramae!

Elaine--I hope that I did not come across as nagging you. We have to struggle to be a success at this. I will not let a Whatburger stand in between a size 3X and a size 14. You can do this. Together we can all do this. However, that does not mean I won't kill for a Whataburger!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
