Surgery on Oct. 15

Recommended Posts

I'm less than 90 hours away from my surgery. Now that the surgery date is getting closer I have shared with more people than I originally have told when I began my pre-op diet classes and appointments six months ago. I am getting the same response from everyone - basically that they think I don't need the surgery. I have yo-yo'd up and down between 275 - 315 for the past 5 years with all the negative effects to my health that go along with being 100 - 120 lbs overweight.

Has anyone else had this reaction from family and friends? How did you handle it?

That aside I am looking forward to a healthier me in the weeks, months and years to come!

I am also on the 15th. Seems so close and so far away at the same time.

I honestly only told 4 people and they all have been excited for me.

Good luck with getting threw the next few days almost on the other side

Good deal on being so close to the big day.

I can surely relate to the yo-yo thing.

I haven't had too many folks say anything along the lines of "just do it yourself". Most anyone that says anything at all says something supportive. They know that I struggled internally with the "Do it yourself, man" stuff for quite some time.

My prior successful weight loss runs took both kitchen discipline as well as lot of hard work in the gym. The medical issues that I've had this past year have made it almost impossible to do my job, much less gym work.

The surgery is a tool to help supplement this deficit. As progress occurs....hopefully mobility will and so will the leverage over the weight loss through greater activity.

You've counted the hours. It won't be long. Looks like you've got a good start on the losing, too. Best wishes !!!!!

I'm having surgery on Oct 14. I've told just about everyone. Most have been supportive and offering prayers for a safe surgery. After years and years of trying to lose weight my diabetes is getting worse. This is my last chance before insulin.

I have a coworker/friend who is super healthy and disciplined. I suspect she has told others she believes I haven't tried hard enough. At least she keeps her comments from me. Again, I know I have tried and what she thinks ultimately doesn't matter.

What matters is what you think. You know your body better than the others Take confidence in your decision.

I decided to wait until after the surgery to tell my extended family. That way they can avoid the worrying stage and just be mad at me for not telling them in advance.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
