December 2015 surgery dates?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is December 9th. I already have insurance approved, and need to send in one more peice of paperwork for FMLA, which I will do tomorrow.

This is my first ever surgery, and I am so anxious/nervous about it. The anxiety has made me really emotional; especially this past week where it finally hit me, this is really happening. My biggest fear is that something will happen during surgery (I have heard terrible stories), so I have been trying to focus on the success stories on here.

I am also excited about my new life as a post op patient, I have been working on it for a year now, and have made a lot of changes to my lifestyle to prepare me for post op life.

Hello decemberers :) I have my op 7th December and can relate to most things said! I'm all in all super excited for the next chapter in my life. Do any of you have children? My little girl is 21mths and she is my only concern as such X I start pre op diet on Monday so my focus is on that at the moment. I've struggled to diet the past few years but recently was diagnosed with depression and my doctor said eating and depression marry quite nice so hopefully that's under control I can control the eating. Best of luck to you all ????

I had my final pre-op visit last Wednesday. I've lost 30lbs since June 5th. Although I will admit I've been planning my "tour of lasts" (i.e. places I know I'm not going to be able to eat at again, if ever. This is for my husband's benefit as well as my own. ;) ) don't expect to lose much more before surgery; my goal is simply not to gain.

I'm down to 3 weeks from tomorrow. Today I cease my fish oil supplement. I ordered some individual powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury packets this week to try out prior to surgery. I'll also spend the next few weeks lining up the Vitamin supplements I'll need, along with some good for stage 1, post-op.

Small glitch in my pre-op testing. My EKG showed an abnormality. My surgeon didn't seem too concerned in the he didn't seem to think it would derail my surgery. I'm going it is something already known to my PCP/something that was checked out a few years ago, not something new. I follow up with a cardiologist tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed!

Side note: I truly feel for those that are on a10+ day fast prior to surgery, especially if it cross the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm also counting my blessings that my surgeon only requires a clear liquid fast the day prior to surgery!

@@Jenny_Baldwin, i feel the same paranoia about getting a cold...especially since my hubby has been sick for two weeks with one! So many around me have been sick, and i would be so incredibly disappointed if my surgery had to be postponed. But...one day at a time. Today has enough trouble of its own! Good luck!

@Jenny_Baldwin. I'm one of the "lucky" ones who is doing the presurgery diet this week, including thanksgiving day. My surgeon and NUT told me i could have some lean turkey, a nonstarchy veggie, and one carb....so at least i can have something on my plate. I will include lettuce, tomatoe, cucumber and use some Walden Farms (zero calorie) dressing too, so actually, my plate will be quite full. And I'll have to look the other way for all of the other stuff there....i am MOTIVATED TO SUCCEED! It's just a day, just another thanksgiving meal. I've had a bunch of them. : )

You have a plan and that's the best way to approach it. Good luck!

I have a 13 year old who says she does not want me to have the surgery. However, my current weight has a serious negative impact on my health and life. Its hard explaining this to her, I think she gets it but still does not like the idea. I suspect because I will be away for surgery.

I have also been doing a last tour, if you will and Thanksgiving will be a light dinner. My date is not until Dec 18 but would still like to lose.

FMLA paperwork is in the works. Man its a pain!

One of my sisters is not at all supportive. She said if I've been losing so well & being successful in these months before surgery, I should just continue that.

I tell her I define success as KEEPING IT OFF, which is where I fail & need help. That my MS has been in check, which has helped tremendously.

She finds it too risky (as opposed to morbid obesity??) and says that people lose, then regain (because they stop paying attention to what they are supposed to do) or lose too much and then look awful (if it was about vanity, I'd fine this at 25 & single!).

We've just agreed to disagree on this.

I lost 53lb earlier this year. I thought it was gone forever, this time. Then I put 27lb back on...

If it was so easy for us to keep it off we wouldn't be considering surgery!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
