Hi...I am 6 weeks post op and twice in the last week I have been awoken in the middle of the night feeling like I am going to vomit. Lots of retching, coughing and it feels awful. Then for a couple of days my stomach and intestines are grumbling, and I ha pave the worst rancid taste. Any ideas on why this would be happening? It really caught me off guard because others wise all has been going really well.

Sounds like it could be acid reflux. Are you taking a daily med for that?

You may need a prescription PPI (i.e. Pantoprozole). Surprised your doctor didn't give you a prescription for that. Call your surgeon tomorrow and get that. It will take a week or so to work but should help. You should be able to also take Pepcid in the meantime (but ask dr to be sure).

Agreed you need a PPI. Prilossec, omeprazole, zantac etc... Over the counter is good, prescription strength is better. It takes a good 5 days to get into your system and work & it only works when taking it regularly. Call your doc and get a script ASAP.

I agree with taking the PPI for at least 2 weeks post surgery. I recently had a few episodes and hate when that happens!

I recently went to my surgeon for a one year followup. The problem was that I was eating and drinking too late to get all the Protein and liquids in. He suggested that I stop eating and drinking by 7:00pm. I haven't had any reflux problem after I did that.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! I am on prescription strength Pepcid. I do think I am eating too late. I find it hard to get all my Protein and Water in which pushes eating later than I would like. I'll work on that and will call my doctor today.

Definitely reflux. Ask your doctor for a different presceiption. Nexium worked for me. Also don't eat before bed :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
