Hi all. Looking for a support forum and ended up here. :) I've decided to have gastric bypass and know support is key in any major change in life.

A bit about me: I'm 30 years old and a nurse in Chicago. Have a loving husband and a beautiful 4 yr old daughter. They are the reason I'm going through with the surgery- I want to be healthy and be around.

No surgery date set yet. About to start the required 90 days of multidisciplinary care set by my insurance (Aetna) before they'll pre-cert me. Hoping for a February date. I'm blessed to work for a hospital with a great program and great insurance benefits to allow this to happen. Just need to keep my job ;)

So hello! I hope to post quite a bit and get to know people

Welcome @@Learningtolive! You've definitely found a great place to learn and find support as you embark on your journey. I had my bypass on 07/29 and I can promise you that it is well worth it! Congrats!

Welcome and let us know if we can be of any help. Try to get about a half hour per day of walking. It will help the recovery process go smoother. Also if you are drinking caffeine, cut that out now. When I went cold turkey on my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered for a week with withdrawal syndrome. It is best to get that over with now so that it does not compound with the effects of recovering from the surgery.

I'm new as well, but welcome!

I know in the very beginning it seems as if you are never going to get there, but I'm *almost* there (waiting on approval) and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! Good luck!

Thanks guys! I'm excited. After a trip to a theme park this weekend it just sealed my thoughts that I need this surgery for my daughter. Hard to fit on rides with her or when riding with her felt like lap belt was so far from her she'd fall. Plus I didn't fit on one of my fave coasters :( I wanted to cry.

My doctor keeps in constant touch, opened up appointments for the multidisciplinary team I need to see as he's shoot for a mid- to late January surgery. So close yet so far.

I joined these forums for resources and y'all are so friendly. Excited to be here. Thanks guys!

@@Learningtolive Funny you mentioned the rides, I think this summer when we took my nieces to silver dollar city & some of the rides were too tight kinda was what sealed the deal for me also!!! Trying to keep up with them was hard also, so looking forward to next summer when they have to keep up with me!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
