Do your vitamins make you nauseous?

Recommended Posts

I just replaced my chewable "gummy" Bariatric Advantage Vitamins with a chewy Bariatric advantage tablet, because they quit making the starburst- like one. I've taken them with and without food, but every time I've taken them they give me an upset stomach. Has anyone else experienced this? If you've found a Bariatric quality Vitamin that doesn't upset your stomach please share.

I only take chewable B12 and D3 and they feel fine. My Multivitamin leaves me standing over the sink or behind bushes for minutes and minutes on end until the nausea goes away. I take Calcium and Iron that are non-chewables that do not cause this problem. I am looking for chewable recommendations, by the way, if you have any.

@@skinnyrita Some of mine did. I stopped taking Vitamins all together 4 months ago so I had my surgeon check my labs last month and they were perfect. I'm not saying don't take them. Do what your surgeon says. I just stopped because they were making me feel worse than good. I have my labs checked regularly so I can keep a check on them.

Mine don't make me nauseous, but I was taking the Bariatric Advantage Multi before surgery, and after surgery I just can't stomach the taste. I switched to Celebrate.< /p>

Thanks to all of you for your responses. It's clear we all have a wide range of responses after surgery to different Vitamins. I may have to get the kind you swallow and forgo the chewy ones????

Someone suggested to me taking the Multivitamin right after eating. I tried that and haven't had any nausea since!! Made all the difference in the world. Give it a try! I hope it works for you too because I suffered through the daily nausea for months and I feel for you all. It's not fun

I have to take a liquid multi with stevia, because I can't have any sugar substitutes due to allergys , and it makes me very nauseous ! Does anyone know of any chewables that don't have fake sugar ? Can we take regular pill Vitamins eventually ? Or is this a forever thing w/chewables or liquids?

Bariatric Advantage chewables made me violently ill! Projectile vomiting! They went in the trash. Going to try the Vitamin patch.

Thnks for your post, I thought I was the only one ;)

I take chewable Vitamin and gage each time, but doesn't cause nausea. I will go to a pill again once my Dr says okay.

I also take a b-12, but it's liquid and I love it (natures best)

Finally I take a Calcium - chewable - taste like a piece of chocolate -- love it

I'm only two weeks out and LOVE this site. Keep the info coming those of you who have been "through it".

Thanks Everyone!

I'm on BariActiv and the Calcium with d and mg and the Iron are great. The multivitamin I struggle with. Today I've broken them into 4 pieces each (I need 2 a day) and spaced out dissolving the pieces in my mouth. It's still not fun but at least a little bit more tolerable and I haven't needed to take a Zofran with it today like I did the last 2 days.

Any multivitamin that I take in pill form makes me nauseous. I thought it was the Iron but even ones without it make me ill. I take Vitafusion gummies and supplement with iron and B-12. This is the only solution that works for me and 2 years out, my labs are good. Good luck!

I have tried so many kinds of bariatric Vitamin that I have lost count. I also tried lots of over the counter Vitamins just hoping for something to help my nutrition needs. I was nauseated or gagging from the taste on all of them. I finally found one that wasn't too big that worked pretty good. It was One a Day prenatal with folic acid & DHE. But my absolute favorite, or vitamin patches! Just started a few weeks ago but no nausea, skin irritations, no problems at all! Another good thing is the cost. They are less expensive than any of the bariatric I tried.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
