Dr had to stop in OR room

Recommended Posts

This morning I went in for my sleeve @6am.. Everything was great I was in or room, they put me to sleep but when they went to put the breathing tube in they couldn't get it, my passage was too tight, they tried 2 1/2,times then aborted. They said my pallet is very small, my adnoids were very large and with too much soft tissue it was impossible and my throat started swelling. My sergon was great tho he assured I can have it in a few days and this was a blessing because if they got it in my throat would have closed up once tube was removed and would have maybe needed a trache and also if I needed a emergency operation and they tried to tube me it would have been a on site tracheotomy.. Everything happens for a reason. Now they will do it fiberoctive threw nose to see around vocal cords and shouldn't be any issues. Just really upset that this happened but Im thankful my doc stopped and realized what was happening and promised everything will be OK.. He was a gem, and knew this wasn't worth the risk and good news is I have me time to shrink my liver more Lol has this happened to anyone? They all said it was kinda rare that it was this hard and my adnoids were so big..

So sorry it happened, but so happy to hear you can still have your surgery at a later time. Your doc sounds great. Good luck!

Sorry to hear your procedure is delayed but very happy to hear your surgeon was on top of this and backed out in that moment.

I'm sorry that you had to experience this delay......talk about frustration !!!

I think you nailed it, though, when you said things happen for a reason.

The circumstances that led up to my decision to have wls found me much more prayerful and contemplative. I fully agree that things happen for a reason. I've had some experiences since this that I can only explain as God's hand at work.

He does share a sense of humor, too, and it's not been without several really funny events in my life. Not saying at all that there is ANYTHING humorous about your experience in the O.R. You are much safer today for your surgeon's decision to back out and wait a bit.

It's going to happen when it should and you will look back on this next year and simply shake your head and smile by knowing there are decisions being made on higher levels that guide us.

Wishing you the best in the time ahead. It's going to happen for you. Trust and believe.

So sorry to hear that it didn't go ahead BUT so revealed it didn't, considering the issues.

You have a good surgeon there!!

Good luck for your future surgery and speedy recovery :D

Well I picked Oct 22 for my new date, very sore and bruised from the attempt's. This will give me a extra 3 weeks to heal and lose more weight on my pre opp diet at least. I'm very scared to be awake for my nasil intabation but I know its the only way. Hopefully I don't chicken out but I have some time to think about it more. Thanks everyone xx

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
