New member, Lap band to Sleeve!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!!!!

Im new to this forum even though I have been reading some of the topics before and after my surgery but today just decided to finally join and be part of the group :)

Well My story is im a 25 year old single mom and back in December of 2013 I had the Lap Band surgery at my all time weight of 265 lb , by November of 2014 i had dropped to a low of 215 but there were some issues with the band and the doctor had to remove almost all the liquid and well with the holidays that made me gain almost 20-30 pounds easily. By this past summer I went to go get my band tightened but it had moved so much it was no longer accessible so my doctor suggested to get the Gastric Sleeve after removing my band. By this time I was back up to 240 lb :(

Thankfully my insurance was quick to approve the surgery and had by surgery a week ago on September 23. Surgery weight was 233 and today im at 224 lb. Is this a normal weight loss? Is it too quick, too slow?! :o I left the hospital 1 day post op, not much pain, ive only had to take the liquid tylenol I was prescribed, nothing stronger. I do get weak and tired after walking around. Ive been able to go to the grocery stores and the mall for a bit but not too long (My poor toddler was getting cabin fever LOL) . My doctor did send me home on a full liquid/puree diet. I feel like that just so advanced compared to most who stay on a full liquid for a few weeks. Obviously I can only eat 3 or so spoonfuls before getting full. I mostly eat yogurt, crystal light, eas shakes and drink as much Water as I can.

Today was my first day back at work, but my job was aware I would have to work sitting down and not usually on my feet all day like im use to, they've been great!! :D

Well I am glad to be on this forum and get to know you all and your stories. I hope that this time around I can loose the weight and keep it off! My goal is really 180 but my doctor said I could get down to 155 lb. The day I step on the scale and im in the 100s I will literally cry and then have a party! HAHA!! :P

Good luck to you all!

PS- What has been your normal weight loss post op, like for 1 week-1 month?

Thanks guys!

I too went from lab band to sleeve. I had my surgery 5 days ago. Glad to hear you're back to a routine. I took some time off of work. Look forward to hear more of your updates.

Hi, just new to this group. I have had a lap band for 11 years, I have decided to have a gastric sleeve procedure to replace the band as I have had a few problems with the band. In November I am having the band removed. And hopefully 3 months after that I can have the sleeve procedure done. Would like to know if anyone else has been down this road. I would like to loose another 25 kilos ????????????☺️

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
