I am three weeks out and I'm finding that what I miss more than any specific food is carbonated drinks. Even just seltzer, I'm really missing that.

I'm also really missing sushi

What are you missing the most

(I just finished a Coke Zero and am having sushi for lunch. Shhhh... Don't tell anyone. I used a straw, too.)

I buy riceless sushi -- it's wrapped in thin cucumber instead of seaweed and it's all fish/crab, no rice or rice noodles. YUM!

jealous!

I know I'll be able to have some sushi in another week. Does the soda give you any trouble? how far out are you?

I did NOT drink soda (always diet pre and post op) until my surgeon cleared me. To this date, I stir a bit of the carbonation out and I prefer it over ice to Water it down a bit. I don't drink nearly as much as I used to, maybe a can a day or so and a 2liter lasts well over a week.

It bothers me if I drink it too fast, so I sip it through a straw. If it hurts, I stop. It's just a burp but I prefer not to feel that bloated feeling.

I am almost 2.5 years out.

I am only 10 days out and I miss everything! I'm a huge food addict and am working on freeing myself with this "reset" of my system. I'd kill for some fries with lots of salt and ketchup. Just being real. I won't have them but that is where my head is at right now. The mental transformation I know will be the hardest. Right now I am looking forward to eating some actual food so my body feels a little more satisfied.

Hang in there. Once you starting eating food, you will get full so fast on your Protein and vegetables you won't want anything else. During my first couple of weeks I never felt "full" because of all the nerves in my stomach being cut and just the healing process. But when you start to eat, it's totally different. And you'll find new, healthy foods you love!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
