So a funny thing just happened....

I just got a call from my doctor's office with lab results from my 4 month check-up. I was told that my Protein is too high and I should back off of it. I have been very good about getting in 80 g of protein a day, but rarely go over 100. I am really surprised at this directive since everything I read/hear always says to get 80-100 protein. Is there such a thing as too much protein?

I've not been told that my Protein levels have been too high - but I have had too much Protein in my kidneys - perhaps its the same thing? Anyway, I was given ramirpril to counteract this... I spoke to my dietician, and told her about the protein in kidneys - she did say to back off the high protein diet and go more for a 'healthy' diet.... I am further out than you - thats almost 3 years for me now.

Yes, too much Protein is dangerous. It can damage your kidneys. Talk with your doctor on how much you should aim for.

It can be damaging, especially if you have high blood pressure, which causes your kidneys to spit out more of it into the urinary tract. It's just an advisory, nothing horrible as happened.

This is good to know. I was told between 60 and 100. I always get at least 60 but never make it to 100. I had my blood work done at 3 months post-op recently and everything was good

Thanks so much for the feedback! I have been so focused on getting all my protein in I never focused on there being a down side. Lol. I am going to take it down to 60-70 and see how it goes.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
