I am two weeks out and was on full fluids these past 2 weeks...besides the fact that I hate Protein shakes, i have been doing well. I managed my Water etc but omg, every time a family member eats or I smell food...i go into a depression. I have had 3 meltdowns in the past week. I just cannot get past the feeling that I need to eat! I am not hungry at all.

Also the fact that I cannot swim or dance (my two other favorite pleasures) as well as visiting friends (because usually that requires coffee or food), I feel so isolated and stressed.

Am i alone?

This is only a moment in time-- you will be back to eating.I'm glad you recognize that you're not actually hungry though!

This would be a great time to develop new associations-- maybe visiting friends can be associated with fitness in some way. Take a walk with them-- they can sip coffee- you can sip Water??

How long is the no swimming in effect for? I swam at just over 1 month out...

@@Marie Car, this will pass. I am three months post op and do not have these feelings anymore. As your diet stages progress and you are allowed to have more "food", you will learn that it's not all it's cracked up to be. There are ALOT and I mean ALOT of foods that I truly enjoyed in the past and I do not anymore. I can take a bite or two and think, what the heck, this is not what I rememeber and once you discover that, you could care less if you have it again. Hang it there, it will get better!

@@Marie Car... you are SO NOT ALONE. I feel your pain. Congrats on making it past the two weeks! You need to remember its just a short while, then you'll be able to eat again.

I was just feeling that way the other day but just think of the end result. I will be 3 weeks on Friday. I prepare meals for my kids and try and seat down with them while they eat. I will have my cottage cheese and they will have whatever is on the menu. It doesn't seem as bad that way. Good luck!

The hardest thing for me after having this surgery was the depression because EVERYTHING revolves around food. I live in South Louisiana and we LOVE food. We use food as a reason to socialize, food as a way to love people. We have festivals just to Celebrate food. EVERYTHING. I really got depressed. Hold on to the thought that you will be able to go back to eating almost everything you enjoyed before. You will just have less.

Almost 4 months out. After I got over the food depression, seeing how much others eat has started to sicken me more so. It reminds me of how much I used to eat and what that did to me for 30 years! I still occasionally daydream-briefly-about sweets but it doesn't bother me anymore!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
