7weeks out and I'm not prepared...HELP

Recommended Posts

I had the VSG on July 17 and thought I was prepared but now that I'm on solids I have no idea what to eat... I stare at my fridge and don't know what to do make.. I don't have a nutritionist to ask just my doctor and all he says is what ever I can tolerate and don't eat carbs or no more than 5 grams of sugar.... Help... Do you have any healthy and affordable recipes that I can try...

I have looked at and bookmarked some recipes but I feel I am best with the slow approach, so I am just adding a few things myself to foods I know go down well. I did go out last week and have Thai fishcakes (appitiser size and I could only eat 1 and a half but the tasty chili sauce kept my taste buds alive for a few days!) Then I had payback from the sodium:angry:

I also bought Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook For Dummies pre surgery which is good and Both of Alex's books. I hope some who are further out can offer some good recipes

Best of luck !

My go to quick and easy meals:

Canned tuna or chicken with light mayo, a little celery and green onion, and if I have some, grapes cut into quarters (for the chicken salad) or pickle relish (for the tuna). I usually have about 2-3 whole wheat crackers with this because carbs are not the devil, you just need to avoid refined simple carbs.

I also love scrambling an egg with some green onion in, topping with some shredded cheese and a bit of light sour cream or pico/salsa (or both).

I also bought cans of refried Beans, put a small amount into a bowl to heat, top with sour cream, cheese and tomatoes/black olives.< /p>

Oh! And easiest of all - a low carb yogurt. Kroger makes one called "carbmaster" that has some pretty good flavors and around 9 grams of Protein so they're good for a quick and easy meal.

I make much more elaborate things now, but those are my fall-back ones when I'm just blanking on what to fix.

There are tons of recipes out there (see the links that Kate gave), but honestly it really is just fix things that are high in Protein like meats, fish, shrimp, legumes, eggs, cheese and milk if you can tolerate (took me a while to get back to enjoying dairy). Add in some veggies and lastly the complex carb stuff sparingly (no refined simple carbs like crackers and regular Pasta - stick with whole wheat).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
