lapband and upper back pain

Recommended Posts

I have been banded about 7 weeks - after my first fill I started experiencing back pain - it is in the middle of my upper back - about where my band would be placed - it isn't horrible -just annoying - has anyone else had pain like this - I really don't think it is muscle related... or acid reflux related - as I take nexium... just wondering. I will probably contact my doc if it doesn't go away this week - but I hate to have to go all the way back up there if it is just something minor such as swelling... thanks Anne:help:

I had this when my esophegus was dialated from over tightness. It could be a sign. I had also just had a new baby so my pain could have been caused by that.

Either way I would check with your doc.

have you called your doctor about this? I had roblems with back pain that would radiate to my side when I was too full or when my band was too tight.

I have had the same pain since my surgery 6/21/07. For me it IS painful. I can ignore it during the day, but at night it really bothers me. I'm too soon for a fill, so if you find anything out, PLEASE let me know.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I've been banded since Aug '06, but have just found a doc to give me restriction, so it's like I'm newly banded... I'm having pain under my right rib cage (which takes my breath away) and also in my chest going all the way around my back. During the day it's annoying for me, but at night it keeps me awake. If anyone knows what's going on, please let me know. I have a call into the doc and am waiting to hear back... we'll see.

Hi,

I was banded July 3rd and today I've started experiencing the same thing. For me, it feels like my port feels only its on my right side under my rib cage and radiates to the back. Its sharp and so far only hurts when I make certain movements as I'm laying down. I do have gallstones and I'm wondering if this could be it?? I'd be very interested to know what your doc says. Good luck!!

Hi everyone. I did have some pain in between my shoulder blades right after surgery and into the early evening. I found that taking big deep breaths help considerably.

I am glad to have found this thread but I didn't find any answers. I am 4 weeks post op and for the past few days I have been having horrible pain. It's under my right rib cage and shoots into my back up through my right shoulder. I am really concerned and scared that something is wrong. It hurts when I lay down and sometimes when I breathe. It's sharp pain. Please let me know what it may be. As I said, I am worried. :)

I didnt have this pain with my first band but I find I have it sometimes now with my second band. It mostly comes when I take really deep breathes, or yawn.

I told my doc about it but he thinks it should pass. I go to see him soon and will probably have some tests done to see if there is something to be done about it.

My Sitiuation: I have had the same right rib pain this week. I had my gallbladder removed sometime ago so I knew it wasnt that. I also felt a little bloated/tight in the chest area. So I went to the doc and he said it is air trapped in the diaphram area. I asked how someone gets that and he said you take in more air when you eat and drink then you realize and then the more you worry about it the more stressed you get and it makes it worse. It will go away. Now the pain in the upper back area is cause by over eating, even if it's just a little bit.

I had the same symptoms for about 5 months and it seems to have to do with the nerves that the band affects and my band alone was tight enough for 6 months. But I had fills and now am eroded.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
