Hi! From Texas here. My surgery will be end of October, first part of November. Been battling my weight for 23 years, well really all my life, it just got completely out of control 23 years ago. I have arthritis really bad and it has gotten worse lately. About 2 weeks ago my doctor told me I would be in a wheelchair and on morphine if I didn't get gastric bypass surgery immediately. I'd been thinking about it for 14 years, so finally I started the path of qualifying for the insurance, making sure I understand what to expect. I don't know what to expect. My surgeon recommended this website and it looks like you have a great support group going here and I hope to be a part of it.

Read read read....journals, books, etc. The Big Book of Gastric Bypass is a great start!! My biggest suggestion is to educate yourself, talk to others, and be ready for the next phase of your life! Welcome!!

Thank you for the welcome. I bought that book last week and have been studying it. It has helped me to hear other stories too.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYSpwzYZVMq2DWYaEY6otXg I would highly recommend checking out This person's youtube channel, starting at her oldest videos and going forward. She is very blunt and straightforward about her WLS and the triumphs and difficulties she has faced. Her channel really helped me a lot when I was feeling anxiety about it. I had my RNY a little over two weeks ago, and I regret absolutely nothing. I see it as the best decision I could have possibly made. We're all here to talk to you and support you! You don't have to go through this alone. Good luck, and feel free to friend me or message me anytime. :)

I had bypass in 1983. Long story short....I'm at 280 again... I am having bypass revision on Sept. 29. The best advise I can give you is this..the first time I had this done I thought it was a miracle. This time I understand that it is a tool. That IM responsible for doing what's right not the surgery. If you follow the "rules" and keep yourself on track...it will be the best thing you ever do for yourself..

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
