How soon after your last pre op requirement was complete did your surgeons office file for insurance approval

Recommended Posts

Hey folks. I'm going in for my last requirement pre op in the morning. It's for my endoscopy. I am kinda nervous. I'm a worry wart as it is. Can any one help me out with how long it took for the surgeons office to get pre auth after your last step was complete ? Thanks In advance for your answers.

Will

Hi will, they say to give it 10 working days but it could be sooner.

My Dr submitted me to insurance before the pre-op testing is done. The pre-op testing is to make sure the surgery is safe. If they have your weight history, you are a candidate and you passed the psych eval, that should be enough to submit you.

Thank you for the info. I have Humana gold so it's harder to get approved till they can fax papers in. I just hope my endoscopy goes well n then I'll start calling the surgeons office more. Thanks again

My story is a little different. I am not in the same town as my physician due to my insurance network. So they tried to do everything via phone after my initial consultation.

After my consultation my physician had me do all the pre-op work as well.

I would call the office the next day to let them know that you have completed all the required testing and that you are ready for them to proceed.

They have lots of patients to keep track of. It doesn't hurt to politely tell them that your ready for the next move.

Update: after my physician requested my authorization it was denied. I wrote an appeal and it was approved the day after I submitted it. They even called me to let me know!

My doc submitted the papers before I did any tests. I have BCBS of Texas and they are very bariatric friendly. My approval was completed within the week.

I'm meeting with my gastrointestinal doctor tomorrow (9/3/15) so we can schedule the endoscopy. That's the last pre-op thing I have to do before insurance submission. I'm so excited and will take the first available appointment! Best of luck tomorrow :)

My doc submitted on the first day that I met him, and supplied him info as I went. I still have the pulmonologist and sleep study, the mandatory class and video, pre-op eval and abdominal ultras approved yesterday (so they had the results of the initial eval, psych eval, nutritionist appointment). I have BCBS high deductible PPO.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
