Just got the my date today, Sept. 21st - I'm excited and nervous all at once! Having a date makes this whole journey so real. Up to now I was just following instructions and now it like... WOW, this really is happening NOW! :D

September 8th! I was wondering if my pre-op liquid diet would be a fast week or a slow one and i's like Indy 500. It's great to read the forums to read all the relatable posts. I'm hard pressed to find someone who can't relate to something I'm feeling, anticipating, etc. In the 3 days of pre-op, I've lost 7 pounds and there is this little part of me that thinks if I could sustain this, I wouldn't need surgery...but alas, I know better. In my 3 days of pre-op, I have 2 truths: The stomach flu can be your friend and kill your appetite and secondly, no matter how hard you try it's hard to chew low-sodium chicken broth. Good luck Septembers!

@@Jenskittle Ditto!! That's exactly how I feel! :\

Mine is set for September 8, and I'm now starting day 4 of my 5 day liquid diet. The 1st day was tough, but now I've got the hang of it. I'm looking forward to getting past this stage and onto recovery.

Last night my husband was crunching carrots and they sounded so good. I had to grab a sugar free popsicle to have something to crunch on too. Lol

Yes, we can do this and we'll soon be sharing before/after pics and telling each other how awesome we look.

It is great to have a forum with people going through the same thing. My insurance required a 6 month recorded doctor supervised weight loss program and I am glad that it did because it gave me time to think about things more and mentally prepare myself and ensure that I really couldn't do the permanent weight loss without something like this.

I also spent that time reading blogs, doing internet searches, going to a support group, imagining how well I could stick to eating right after surgery because I wanted to know what the key to success for this process was and make sure that I felt I could be successful post surgery.

The key thing I have discovered is that the surgery is a tool only and not the answer. You cannot expect to eat the same after surgery as you did before in any way shape or form or the sleeve will stretch and your surgery would have been for not. Exercise is also very key to ensure the weight loss continues (another big challenge for me).

My physician requires:

- meeting with nutritionist

- evaluation by a psychiatrist

- session with an exercise specialist

- quizzes to ensure we are fully informed and understand what we are signing up for.

I am very pleased that his program goes to this extent because it makes me feel more prepared for what is going to happen before, during and post surgery.

My surgery date is Sep 22, 2015. I start liquid diet on Tuesday but have started supplementing some of my meals with Protein drinks and bars to make sure I could tolerate them. I am using Premier Protein shakes and bars with 30 grams of protein. I bought mine from Sams Club and also purchased broth and Crystal Light to supplement.

I am having trouble sleeping this week as it becomes more real that I am having this surgery soon. I'm trying not to think about it to help alleviate my anxiety about it. It helps to read the encouraging posts from post surgery folks so I can look forward to final outcome instead of near term and to communicate with people on the same path at the same time as I am.

Surgery went very well. I found out I also had a hiatal hernia that was repaired at same time. I have never been able to use sugar free anything so as soon as I was started on sugar free Jello I started having stomach pain. It took me about 24 hours to realize what the problem was. I talked the nurse into letting me eat regular jello. Within 6 hours the stomach pain was gone. My doctor didn't seem to believe me and wasn't happy that I had been eating regular jello, but I'm the one suffering so I did it on my own. I experienced the same pain when I began my 2 week liquid diet with Carnation Instant Breakfast. It took me 2 days to realize what was causing my new stomach pain. I'm sure I won't loose as much or as fast but I can't handle the pain. I had to stay 2 nights because I wasn't able to get down as much liquid as they required. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend. We're just kicking back at the house watching movies & taking walks daily.
