  1. Really, all I wanted to say is in my Topic Title. I'm beyond happy and feel fantastic. That is all. Carry on.

    stomach pain

I'm 3 months out and sometimes have the same thing and I can't attribute it to any one thing. Mine is certainly not bad enough to see the doctor, but stopping way before I'm full seems to help? Good luck to you! Hope it ends soon.
  3. @Pinkgirl1234.....my routine, it's not perfect, but whose is? I try try try to get my Protein in via my premier Protein shakes....I try try try to get all my Water in, my Vitamins, etc....I also avoid snacking. I tried not to get impatient during stalls (they happen AND THEY PASS). I stop eating before I'm full and I always take the stairs. Of course, there's a shit ton of stuff in between.... Thanks for the Hoo-rahs!
  4. I gained nearly 10 pounds after the surgery, but lost that all within 5 days.
  5. What terrific answers! Great, great group of people. I think I will take all of your advice at not weighing every morning despite the fact that that was my doctors recommendation. That's a crazy maker.
  6. So after dropping 31 pounds rather quickly, I hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I was stuck for 13 days before the scale dipped again. I know that stalls are a normal part of the process, but they mess with your head, don't they? I found myself saying that perhaps I should not have my 160 calorie Protein shake, which I immediately knew was ridiculous thinking considering since my calorie intake is around 500 a day and of course I did NOT skip my shake but stuck with the program. My question is, I hear a lot of very smart people on this site say "Embrace the stall". If you are one of those people, would you kindly please explain to me what that means to you? I think I need a different prospective than the one that I have. All sage wisdom is welcome, including sarcasm.

    Not losing weight

I am 4 weeks out and at about 21/2 weeks, I had lost 31 pounds then BAM 13 day stall! So frustrating, BUT NORMAL. It felt fantastic to finally move past that mark today. HANG IN THERE!
  8. I finally got past the stall which I know are part of the norm, but again.....I have all the information and education about stalls, I understand the rationalization, but still...stalls mess with your mind. The support here is WONDERFUL.
  9. My weight has not moved in 3 days despite the fact that I'm walking/running every night....now granted, I've lost 29 pounds in 2 weeks which is amazing, but everyone talks about a 3 week stall, not a 2 weeks stall. I"m sure it's my body recalibrating and I may be losing inches, but it just messes with your mind, you know?
  10. I'm two weeks out and the scale hasn't moved for 3 days. That being said, I've lost an astounding 29 pounds in two weeks! I'm 100% compliant and I'm walking/running every night so I know it's just a matter of time before my body readjusts and starts losing again...but YES, stalls mess with your mind, especially this early in. Let's hang in there! We can do this!
  11. @ Appreciate the instant support. It makes me think that that the creamed Soup has too many calories, which is insanity considering that all I'm allowed is my Protein drinks (120 calories) and creamed soup which is 200 calories. I need to cut myself some slack.....patience grasshopper.
  12. A wise friend who had bypass told me that it's funny; her stomach will tolerate a lot more "junk" than it will healthy food. She got herself going in the wrong direction but quickly righted her ship. What the doctors preach is true in every account: protein first, Protein first, protein first.
  13. @@lmag That's terrific! Makes a huge difference in your recovery! Last night was a good night, but the previous two....notsomuch. I'll take it when I can get it!
  14. I see so much variation on here with different surgeon's post-op liquid/food phases, it's incredible actually. My surgeon is very conservative. Phase 1 - Clear liquid diet (days 1-14) Phase 2 - Protein drinks, creamed Soups (week 3-8) Phase 3 - Full liquid/Blenderized (week 9) Phase 4- Soft to Regular Foods (week 10) Foods to add after 11 weeks: Shrimp, scallops, lobster, salmon, halibut, soft cooked vegetables, cold cereals less than 3 grams of sugar, toasted bread Foods to add after 12 weeks: Soft bananas, apples, melons, peaches (no skin on fresh fruit), plain lettuce, low fat dressing Foods to add after 13 weeks: chicken or turkey without skin, chicken or turkey salad, ground turkey, chicken meat, fajita meat, soy products, refried Beans, Peanut Butter, Pasta, untoasted bread Foods to avoid for 6 months after surgery: red meat, pork, raisins, grapes, nuts, seeds, popcorn, corn, alcohol Next week I enter phase 2 and will be there for 5 weeks....sigh...going to have to google some good creamed soups. Compliancy is not an option for me, this was a HUGE surgery and I get one shot at it. The good news is that in 2 weeks, I'm down 22 pounds. That's crazy, right?
  15. It's just so crazy the variations! Envious of your post-ops, that's for sure!
  16. @@Jessica2011Marie Congratulations being a week out from surgery! Mine was the 8th! Did you consult with your doctor about your low sugar levels? I'm positive they would have some really great healthy solutions to solve that problem without putting your sleeve at risk. I don't know...I'm not a doctor and I would never shame or judge someone for the choices that they make because we are all adults and our paths are unique. I'm just not convinced that oj and taco bell would have been the safest choice a week out? One of the reasons is the pyloric valve that is still intact after the sleeve. When you send food to your stomach, the stomach pulverizes the food and strong muscular contractions push the food toward the pyloric valve which flushes the food. (lots of pressure) My surgeon told me that the stomach needs time to heal before it can handle those muscular contractions and pressure. There's a lot involved in this surgery and my doctor's office even gave me cell phone numbers of staff to call if there is any iota of a question. That's for the safety of ourselves. I would strongly recommend that you do call your office because the chances of your sugar levels dropping again are strong and they may have a safer alternative....OR OR...maybe you just have to coolest doctor on the planet that thinks what you are doing is medically honky dory?? I hope my comments aren't taken offensively. That definitely was not my intent. Best of luck to you Jessica! I hope every good thing comes your way!
  17. @@lmag The elusive sleep, I hear you. Last night was my first good night and what a difference it makes. My issue was that damn shoulder pain. It was liked being stabbed with a knife every time I inhaled and then the knife being pulled out every time I exhaled. It made sleep impossible. So I moved more, took my liquid tylenol more to stay ahead of it and used a heating pad. Made a big difference. Hang in there, it'll come. My doctor recommended that you sleep when you can, whenever you can. Your pattern will even out. You've got this.
  18. My surgery was 9/8. I had hernia repair also. My physician requires a two week clear liquid diet post-op. Homemade broth, decaffeinated green tea and Vitamin Water Zero have been my staples. Ironically, my biggest pain is that a patch of anesthesia has settled into my left shoulder and it's killing me but improving everyday with walks and some liquid Tylenol. My incisions are healing nicely, I'm sleeping better. Day 5 after surgery I really felt like I turned a corner. I have allergies to codeine and morophine, two of the main pain meds that can help manage pain. And because of the way my body metabolizes meds, dilaudid and fentanyl slowed my breathing too much so the only option was Toradol which causes bleeding so we were in a bit of a pickle managing my pain. It was really hard, but only really hard for 3 days. I have occasional head hunger but no physical hunger. I'm hellbent to be 100% compliant with what my surgeon recommends because this was by far, the hardest thing I have ever put myself through and I want to give myself every opportunity to succeed as I only get one shot at this surgery. No cheating or early foods for me, but also no judgement for others. Everyone's path is unique. I must tell myself 10 times a day that I can't believe I actually did it! It's a week behind me! I'm damn excited to get to a point where my walks can turn into runs. Great luck everyone!
  19. 3 days until surgery 7 days on pre-op liquid diet 12 pounds lost since Monday 24 days off of work 490 calories a day (130 per Protein drink) 8 times I was asked "Are you sure you don't want a hamburger" at a cookout 362 times in 3 hours that I thought "Boy, I would, in fact, like a hamburger." 4, 248 times I lost my train of thought because of brain fog. 26 times husband has said "Eye on the prize." 1 time I reminded him that the prize was $500 boots. (I'm being facetious, don't hate) 17,982 times I reminded myself to take this one day at a time What are your numbers?

    Numbers....

@@vsgLola129 Thank you! Today's the day! I have to be at the hospital at 11 for surgery at 1 which is great for me because he takes the most complicated cases first so hopefully that's telling that I'm scheduled in the afternoon. My 9 days of pre-op shed 14 pounds. I can't wrap my mind around that! THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING! Deep breaths. Thanks for the love!

    September Sleevers

September 8th! I was wondering if my pre-op liquid diet would be a fast week or a slow one and i's like Indy 500. It's great to read the forums to read all the relatable posts. I'm hard pressed to find someone who can't relate to something I'm feeling, anticipating, etc. In the 3 days of pre-op, I've lost 7 pounds and there is this little part of me that thinks if I could sustain this, I wouldn't need surgery...but alas, I know better. In my 3 days of pre-op, I have 2 truths: The stomach flu can be your friend and kill your appetite and secondly, no matter how hard you try it's hard to chew low-sodium chicken broth. Good luck Septembers!
  22. @@Elode I work at a hospital so it's like working in a giant petri dish. On the flip side, I've lost 7 pounds since Monday...not ready to congratulate the flu but I'm not so angry at it anymore.
  23. Talk about timing...at about 3:30 on day one of my liquid pre-op diet, the headache hit. By 7:30, I was vomiting and other things flu related. I'm grateful that its looking like a 24 hour bug but it got me thinking...I'm having my sleeve surgery a week from today (YIKES!) and I'll be healing during flu season...I'm nervous how a new, healing sleeve would handle an ugly vomiting flu? I would have sold my soul for Excedrin Migraine...
  24. So after being a spectator on this site for 6 months while waiting to meet the requirements of my insurance, I now feel like more "part of the in crowd" with my surgery scheduled on September 8th. My first feeble post was like dipping my toes in the water; that I was scheduled and feeling excited and terrified all at the same time. The six months flew by...seriously, I thought it would be the opposite, that the wait would be tortuous....but alas, I'm literally counting the days and now my brain is drawing a panicked blank. I'm having nightmares that I wake up and the surgery "didn't take." After all, it's awfully hard to absorb the concept of how the surgery will limit my eating. Right? I'm right, aren't I? Surely others feel the same way? When it comes to food, I am driven by two gears: hungry and stuffed. And, despite the fact that I have previously been very successful at losing weight and equally successful at gaining weight, it's still a hard concept to grasp. So I'm sure it's quite normal to have difficulty believing that eventually, 1/4 a cup of food will fill me up. It seems so unreal. Sigh...I guess it's part of that emotional roller coaster of understanding and conceptualizing the gravity of surgery. I'm optimistic that my brain will catch up by time that date rolls around in a couple of weeks...
