Post op dull pain, is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else have the dull pain under your left breast? I'm 8 days out and it hasn't gone away. I also have a pain to the left and up a little bit from my belly button. Is this normal???

I still get very bloated as well. Taking Gas-x twice a day. Basically all I have are shakes with Water, crystal light and Protein powder but I'm able to meet liquid and Protein goals this way.

Please share your thoughts.

I am going through the same pain in the same area. It feels like a dull pain that sometimes radiates to my back. My surgeon told me to give it more time for healing. He said 8-10 weeks is the full recovery time frame. Good luck to you. I know how you feel. Just take it easy. It takes at least two weeks before you really start feeling good.

You have no idea how good it feels to know someone else has experienced this. Not that I want someone else in pain :) but at least I know nothing is wrong. Thank you for the peace of mind. Good luck to you as well!!!

I am 6 weeks post op and I can tell you that I had the same pain to the left of my belly button. I probably called my doctor's office 10 times about it. He told me that the incision on the outside don't really match up with what was on the inside. The pain next to your belly in probably the internal stitch they make and it takes a few weeks to dissolve. I sneezed and ripped mine so that's how I know for sure mine was a stitch. I would guess the other pain under your left breast is gas pain and it should go away within a week or so. Take my advice about the one next to your belly, if you feel a sneeze coming on push on it and hold it until your are done. That's the only complication I have had so far and it was all my stupid cold's fault lol.

I find myself holding my left side and people are going to start thinking I'm pregnant because of how much I hold my belly. I still get pain driving too.

What y'all are saying fits me perfectly. I hold my belly because any bit of jiggle is uncomfortable. The pain next to my belly button doesn't match up to the incision either. I've feared that when I'm sneezing that I've popped something open. I don't have a cold but I've had a couple of good sneezes and I coughed really hard one time. Did they have to do anything when you ripped your internal stitch?

Unfortunately there is nothing they can do about a ruptured internal stitch. It just has to heal. I ripped my twice and I could physically feel it tear both times. It was terrible pain for like 3 weeks! My doc told me you can buy like a wrap to support it if you want but other then that and pain pills you just have to let it heal. Good luck!

Thank you for talking me through it!!!

I have another question, if you don't mind. I'm 10 days post op now. I am able to drink 10 ounces of G2 in 30 minutes. I used to feel the full feeling and know that I had to stop. Today I tested it and was able to get that much down in half an hour. I'm wondering if that's normal or abnormal. Thoughts?

No, I don't mind at all :-) I can't say that's normal for everyone but it has happened to me. There are days were I struggle to get down 40 and other days I have no issues. Same goes for food. Yesterday I was only able to get down a few things, and other days I can eat an entire piece of eggplant lasagna. I also went through a phase where I just didn't want to drink Water and that's abnormal for me. It lasted about 2 weeks and now I'm able to drink it no problem. I would suggest you try to just take smaller drinks more often. I invested in a nice 32 oz water bottle that keeps my water cold for up to 24 hours. I just take a drink every 5-10 mins and I make sure that I refill it midday. Makes getting in all my fluids much easier. It's called a hydroflask of you're interested and they sell them on Amazon. Feel free to ask me anything else you like!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
