@@fayeu One of my concerns is health problems - just getting older type issues - after GB. You had strokes post bypass...did it affect anything in your recovery? Anyone else have GB as they work through other health issues?

I was 2 weeks away from Lap Band to Bypass revision last summer and changed my mind. Now I'm thinking about it again...

I'm 56. I had my R-n-Y in 2000. Lost 167 lbs, initially. Put 80 back on in the intervening 16 years that I'm now struggling to take off again. Gotten 24 of it off again, and keeping it there, so far. My top weight was 393. Lost 10 lbs pre-op, but it was only a month between making the decision and the surgery itself. But I have always maintained at least 100 lbs weight loss since the surgery.

Hi all, I'm 52, will be 53 in October. My RNY surgery date is July 13, starting to get nervous. I have diabetes and high blood pressure, sleep apnea and arthritis. I'm really hoping my diabetes will go into remission, and I'm looking forward to not having to sleep with my CPAP machine, hate it :( My arthritis is already better from not having hardly any sugar on my pre-op diet, yea!

@@Cheri_j my diabetes seems to be in remission too! So awesome, had it for almost 13 years, wasn't sure if this would work or not. Have not had any readings over 134, and that's an hour or so after a meal! Very happy no more insulin or metformin for me

HI I'm 50 yo and had my procedure about 2 weeks ago. I was feeling fine til about 2 days ago. I'm feeling really tired and do not have the energy to do anything but sleep. Tomorrow starts my 3rd week where I can start eating meats (chicken, seafood). Im scared to start because when I eat now, everything gets stuck in my chest. I take omeprazole everyday.

CONGRADS on your surgery! Keep sleeping, get your rest, you are healing! We are not as young and need more quiet time. Expect food to get stuck, some things you might not be able to eat for a long while. Tiny, tiny, tiny bites of very soft food and chew, chew, chew!

Hi all I'm 51 yo. Having bypass on 8/29. So excited to start my new life. Obviously scared too. Never been under general anesthesia and I'm terrified of vomiting haven't done it in 5+ yrs. so praying for no nausea after surgery. I'm on metformin( pre diabetic) but pretty healthy otherwise. Hoping for safe surgery and fast recovery. I'd love to hear from you who've had this done before.

I am 50 and having gastric bypass at Kaiser Denver on September 16. I had a band about ten years ago but it was removed one year later due to severe complications. I have gained even more since then and the older I get the more the weight is taking out of me. HBP, high cholesterol, severe sleep apnea, diabetes, asthma, horrible knee pain that limits my activities. I want to hike with my dog and bike with my friends. I want to travel and attend events that I have avoided due to knee pain. I want to buy nice, affordable clothing and not feel judged in public. My goal for next summer. Is to hike a 14k mountain with my friends. This I will keep looking forward to.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
