5 days to go. Should I cheat?

Recommended Posts

5 days till I get sleeved and I've already lost 16 pounds on the pre op diet so far BUT I'm really really craving to go and eat at my fav Indian restaurant. Would it be okay if I eat tonight and start again tomorrow??

Most will say don't and you shouldn't but if u do my dietician said reach for Protein. So how about a piece or two of dry tandoori chicken with a little yogurt dip?

I forgot to add cheating once can lead to more cheating. Which given you are very close now could be a very bad thing.

I had one "cheat" dinner 3 days before my surgery. It was fried chicken. I didn't eat a crazy amount (two pieces of chicken) and ate veggies with it (trying to keep it low carb). I talked to other friends who had WLS and found that this is not uncommon. I am glad that I did it, otherwise I might be going crazy right now with fried chicken cravings (I'm in the soft foods stage).

It may be a very long time post-op before you can have those foods, so I say enjoy yourself (moderation, portion control)!

Good luck!

So when you're two days postop and you're supposed to be on liquids only, are you going to go eat Indian food?

Don't make the choice to cheat. Make the choice to succeed.

BTW, I don't know if it matters, but my pre-op diet was NOT full liquids. I was doing 3 Protein shakes with a sensible, low carb/low fat dinner.

I had full clear liquid diet for two weeks prior (no Protein, no fruit, no veg, just clear liquids/protein shakes). I figured they would be able to "see" if I cheated. Just say no! :)

Just follow what your surgeon wants you to follow. Easy!

Hang in there and fight the cravings. These last few days will eventually pass.

The liquid pre op diet is hard. What kept me on track was pure fear. I know the pre op diet was ordered to shrink the liver. The liver is a very vascular organ and can bleed like crazy if the surgeon accidentally nicks it because it was large and in the way. I was determined that if I had a complication it would not be one that I may have caused. Some complications can result even if the person is doing everything perfect. However, I would have felt awful if my actions had resulted in harm to myself. Try and keep everything in prospective.

In a few months all this will be behind you and a new life is waiting. You can make it!!

Good luck

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
