Endoscopy????????????????

No sedation? I've never heard of that. They've always gave me something to relax. I was in and out of consciousness. I just had one for other reasons not related to the gastric sleeve.

I have not heard of that either did u ask what that means? Cuz I freaked a bit too I was told twilight sedation I said what the heck is that and that nurse says oh your awake I was like oh hell no!!! turns out it just means your not put to sleep so to speak but u won't know what's happening they must do something there's no way you can be alert as we all have gag reflexes and inserting a tube in your throat your body will instinctually fight that and they will want you relaxed so they can do what they need to do which they can't if your gagging or choking I walked into the room they asked me to lay on the table and turn on my side they had previously put in an IV I was asked to turn on my side he said I'm going to inject u now next thing I knew I felt like I'd had a few too many then a few mins later I was back in the recovery area awake and about an hour later I went home my husband drove me I couldn't have even walked from the 6 floor of a huge city hospital that takes up oh a dozen city blocks to the front door I'd have fallen on my face lol I sure could not drive I'm sure they can't be going to do that without sedating you

I don't know if I would want that if they told me no sedation. That's scary. Where are you having your surgery done?

I had partial sedation. I was awake, but loopy. Didn't really know what was going on. They had to keep reminding me to breathe (as I was coming out of it too- I kept holding my breath).

I'd double check, as that doesn't make any sense. If it's partial sedation, like I had, it's not bad at all. I didn't have to get an EGD for my surgery, but I've had two of them because I have a hiatal hernia, diagnosed years ago.

I was put under too...but it only lasted like 15 minutes! I was glad I didn't know what was going on!

Years ago I know that some Dr's did Endoscopies without sedation. Haven't heard of it done this way in quite awhile. The Dr used to spray a numbing spray to the back of the throat to block the gag reflex and when ready would ask the patient to swallow while feeding the camera in. I am very happy that I didn't have to do it this way. If your uncomfortable with this ask to be sedated.

I was given some medicine but it was awful and I remembered everything!! One of the worst experiences I had. Right after I had a colonoscopy and was knocked out because they gave me extra medicine because the endoscopy was horrible

I had the twilight sedation. It is like you are sort of awake, but don't really care. I remember hearing the doctor and staff talking, but don't remember feeling anything.

I had mine about a month ago and I was awake. They delayed my throat with the numbing spray and I sat in a chair and had it done. It was pretty painful so I hope you get some sort of sedation. I'm just glad it's over lol

I chose to do mine without sedation because it is such a quick procedure. I am claustrophobic so can't stand anything blocking my breathing so it was a nightmare. It was about 5 minute of torture but better than losing half a day being drugged up. Hey, I've been through child birth twice so I'm no stranger to torture lol.

If I had to do it again, I'd still probably go the drug free way. Like I said, it's only 5 minutes. And if you aren't claustrophobic, it won't come close to torture.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
