Pouch dilation

Recommended Posts

I recently had an EGD done. The Dr talked to my man while I was still sleeping. He misunderstood and thought I had erosion. I went to the Dr for follow-up today and was told I had dilation of my pouch. Can anyone talk to me that has experienced this? Tell me what you did for treatment. Dr wants to take my band out and so do I. Checking with insurance to see if they will cover.

My band has slipped and I need surgery. I have made the decision to have my band removed. I also would like some feedback from others who had their lapland removed.

What does your Dr. recommend?

usually, you have to lay off solid foods for a while so everything else will go right through, giving your pouch a time of rest.

If you can't lay off solid foods, then a Dr. will completely un-fill the band, taking away all restriction, and accomplishing the same thing.

In your case the Dr. wants to take the band out? So be it...but then what, go with the sleeve?

Your pouch is still part of your stomach, and is designed to expand and contract, depending upon the volume, band or no band.

In overly simple terms, you now have 2 stomachs, and ignoring the stop signals and overeating will stretch the pouch, just as the stomach would do.

Myself, I will go all liquids for 2-3 days every so often to give my pouch, band a rest and not overuse it.

This is the only maintenance I do, and it is the only maintenance I can think of doing for that matter.

I read about people with the band going on maintenance, but after 4-1/2 years I still don't know what that would entail.

I ended up having a complete unfill. I am just now this week at proper restriction (green zone). My dr blamed the band and doesn't like it, but I know it was all me. I would be full but eat a lil more. I would eat too fast, throw up then shamefully eat some more. I truthfully wasn't mentally ready to have the band. I still wanted my crutch. So, after 4 years of being banded, I am now mentally prepared for this journey.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
