Be Honest! Did You Cheat on Your Liquid Diet?

Recommended Posts

Did you cheat on your liquid diet?

If you did, how so?

Did it affect your ability to have the surgery or was your surgery changed from being done laproscopically?

I'm starting my pre-op diet today, and it's not a liquid diet. My surgeon said the one important factor in shrinking the liver is carbs, and keeping the carbs below 20g/day. She has essentially put me on Stage 1 of the Atkin's Diet.

But, that said, as hard as it might be, you should follow your surgeon's diet. There may be a particular reason it was given.

I was dreading the pre-op diet (which for me was just one week long) more than anything. I was shocked at how easy it was for me. I think that getting all that Protein was really helpful. I was also allowed nonfat, low sugar yogurt. The other thing was that I was very busy that week, so I really didn't have too much time to dwell on it.

After surgery was a different story. I couldn't stay on just liquids -- I absolutely craved solid food. I started soft foods early and started solid food a little early, too. I did have a couple of problems with solids, but I have no one to blame but myself. All is good now.

no - I didn't cheat. I was on five Protein shakes per day plus Clear Liquids for two weeks. The first 3 or 4 days were tough, but it was OK after that.

I started mine a week early. I had one Protein (beef, chicken) for dinner and shakes. When my real week came up, I was supposed to only have shakes, sf popsicles, sf Jello and broth. I made my own broth and so the first 3 days, I had about 2 ounces of shredded chicken in my broth. The last 4 days I was a good girl.

Nope. Not once. 1 week of only liquids. Dr. required it and figured she knew better than me. Besides you have to start following rules eventually. Might as well be one that might prevent surgery if you don't.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
