Not to worry..I'm sure you will be fine. I chew gum too.

Was it bubble gum? I swallow that a lot by accident...don't know why...different texture I guess. I have stayed away from the Orbit bubble gum.

if it was going to cause a problem, i think it would be immediate just like a pb.

I've always been afraid of accidentally swallowing gum. However, I'm addicted to Orbit's Mint Mojito. Can't help myself.

The gum passed right through and all is well. Thank you for all your posts and suggestions. You kept me sane and that is what I needed. It reminded me of a time when I was bit by a scorpion and I thought right then and there I was going to die! Well, that is what I heard all my life. As you can see I lived. I didn't even panic, I just quietly walked back to my house (no one was home-nor did I have a phone back then 30 years ago. So I just decided if I was going to die.. I was going to. Silly, needless to say I did not die!

Anyway, I suppose the gum thing could have been a bigger deal with a smaller stoma, but it went down mine just fine. So I will try and be more careful in the future.

Virginia

I did the same thing Sunday and I worried too! That was the first time I've had gum post-op and I was so scared it would plug me up! I guess it all came out OK!:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
