Hey all! I'm a 45 year old mom of two girls and have been struggling with my weight since my first child was born 24 years ago.

It's been a long, depressing journey with me trying everything I could get my hands on to lose weight. I would lose and gain, lose and gain. I felt like a yoyo. A fat one!

A family member had sleeve surgery with amazing results and I knew then that my yoyo dieting days were over.

I went to a seminar, met with the surgeon, jumped through all of the hoops that my insurance required and FINALLY got the phone call yesterday that my surgery was approved!!!

September 10th can't come fast enough!!

We're in the same boat! I am 46 and have 3 sons. Ages 25, 21, and 19. I have also been on that same yo-yo ride! Enough is enough! I will be sleeved sometime in December. Have about 3 months of classes left then it's waiting for insurance approval! Glad I found some people my age and would love to chat back and forth about our journey! Congrats to all!

@Ibehealthy2 I haven't submitted to insurance yet for surgery. I'm over 40 BMI so I'm thinking I'll be okay. I have my first appointment on 8/27 and then the dreaded 6 month wait to get through. Trying to stay busy and not stress out about the process.

I got in at just the right time. When I had my initial visit with the surgeon he got me all pumped up and ready to go then I went to talk to his surgery scheduler and she told me about visits with a nutritionist and visiting my primary physician each month and a psych evaluation and losing 10% of my excess weight. She must've seen the look on my face because she said "you know this is a 12 month process, right?" I broke down in tears.

Then when I went the next week to my primary she said that my insurance had just recently changed all of their policies regarding WLS and all I had to do was a psych evaluation and proof of comorbidities. I almost hugged her...and then I cried again. Happy tears. This has been some journey already and I haven't even had the surgery yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
