Surgery on Tuesday! Still debating if I should change from sleeve to bypass

Recommended Posts

I am both excited and nervous I basically have no support cause most people in my family feel that it's an elective procedure they don't understand the greater risk that comes with not having it any thoughts?

Hi, I know what you mean. I was trying to keep my upcoming date a secret for the same reason, as some good friends had expressed their very negative opinion of it when we were discussing it a while back. But please don't worry. I was second guessing myself badly yesterday, but then today I spoke to my neighbor's daughter who had hers done about 6 weeks ago in Mexico, and she is really happy she did it, has no regrets and no problems. So I am trying to be positive about it again. You chose to have this done for a reason. Think again of those reasons. That will help put you on the right track again. From what I have read on the forums here, it is hard, and you have to be prepared to work at it. But if you do, you won't regret it.

Here is one way to think of it you can convert a sleeve to a bypass.

Why are you sad to get the sleeve? The sleeve is the current "gold standard", in other words, the medical researchers believe that it is the safest, and the most effective procedure. Not only that, but the sleeve has fewer long term complications. And if that is not enough to convince you, the sleeve is the only WLS that leaves you with enough of a stomach that you won't experience nutrient deficiencies. And if you currently take meds for other conditions, you can continue to take your meds without worrying about them not being absorbed properly.

Go forward - get the sleeve! It really is a good choice. Good luck!

According to the Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve (by Alex Brecher), long term weight loss results of the sleeve are about half way between the lap band and the bypass. But without the nutritional deficiencies caused by the bypass. I would suggest that you pick up this book, or purchase the on-line version. It really has wonderful information, especially if you are still in the decision phase.

Thanks for all of the support...I am going with the Bypass...I have a hiatal hernia, dial aged duct at the tail of my pancreas due to difficulty with my removed gallstones and the reflux in my stomach is out of control....No one is cutting my stomach after what I have put it through with the band....Next week is my endoscopy.I am building a case for a revision ...hopefully insurance will pay.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
