Hi I am scheduled for surgery on August 11 and would love to have some support. I am having the gastric sleeve and I am 54 years old.

Mine surgery is the same date. I'm 58 and live in Louisiana. Let's keep in touch and share our journey.

I'm having the surgery Monday, I am 57 years old and live in Southern California. I will let you know how it goes and what works for me and what does not afterwards. Getting very nervous, worried, and excited all in one, still feels a little unreal

I want to play with this group!! I am brand new to this site, joined yesterday and have been lurking and reading from all the wonderful information being shared!!

I'm 51, awaiting my official approval (insurance company told me today on the phone I'm approved and my letter is "going out"...), I don't have a surgery date yet... I still have one more hurdle to get over - a stress test - and the cardiologist is going to have me wear a monitor next week for a potential murmur or palpitation?? and the then I'll have the stress test Aug 14th... so I know surgery will be after that. I am traveling 6 hours away for my surgery so I won't be in a local support group (at least not regularly)... The surgery will be in Huntsville, AL where my parents live so mom can take care of me post-op (I'm not dumb, I know a good thing when I see it!!!) My mom is a much better care taker than my hubby or 17 yr old son who would spend more time wanting to know when I'll be back to taking care of them :D This is ALL about me!!!

Steph

Good luck with your stress test. My surgery is August 27th and I'm travelong 3 hours to San Francisco to have my operation. I plan on driving every other month to the support group. I'm going to therapy once a week to work on my food issues. Welcome to the group.

Your in the right place. There is a lot of great information on the boards. Try to find a support group in your area. I know I have to come to terms with my relationship with food to have long term success. I read the success stories and see what other people are doing. I look at it as baby steps and the gastric sleeve is another tool to help me loose weight and get healthy.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
