Incision site aftercare

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to find too much info on this or I'm looking in the wrong area.

About how big are the incisions and what's the best way to keep them clean/cleaning routine?

Is there going to be scarring? How can I help make that as minimal as possible.

My doctor will be using sutures over staples.

I know I can ask my doctor, but I'd like to be prepared ahead of time. And this might be helpful for other upcoming sleevers.

While every surgeon is different, I had five incisions and dermabond was placed over them. My instructions were not to scrub them when I bathed, basically to leave them alone. At five weeks post-op all of my scabs have come off. My only problem was one week post-op I popped the main incision a little, so I had a oozing opening that finally has healed.

Yes there is some scarring but I'm too soon to know if they'll fade some. The main incision is the biggest but its less than one inch.

Mine were glued and my instructions were not to scrub or immerse in Water. Basically leave them alone but keep an eye on them to make sure they don't look infected.

I have my incisions glued as well but I have plasters on top of them which are waterproof. After 10 days the plasters come off and then they heal naturally. At the moment post op 8 days the biggest incision hurts the most but it's getting better day by day

I had the endoscopic sleeve procedure. My scars are visible, but nothing dramatic. Five scars of different lengths arranged in roughly an oval layout. Length varies from about a half inch to maybe an inch and a quarter. It's been 7 months now, and they have turned the color of the surrounding skin, and I'd say they are nothing to be concerned about on me.

My dressings didn't fall off, and I kept them on for a little longer, hard to recall exactly, but I think 5-7 days. And then I replaced them with new, low adhesion bandages applied fresh after each shower and used a topical antibiotic spray as a prep. Did that for maybe another week. I was careful not to press the wounds with fingertips for the most part - I did make a mistake of scratching under my shirt on one of the small wounds and actually broke the scar tissue very easily - it's very weak at first. So don't scratch any itches. Didn't get an infection though - the other measures probably helping.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
