If it wasn't clear liquids, can you tell me what your pre-op diet was ?

Recommended Posts

I am supposed to do a 1 week protien shake and clear liquid diet, but I want to do something the week before that too, which starts Monday. I would love specifics on what some surgeons use as a pre-op if they don't use just the shakes and Clear liquids. I have heard something about just high Protein low carb, but want specifics. Thanks in advance.

If you want to start early I would begin eating like you will post-op.

cheese, eggs, low fat meat, nuts, veggies, small amounts of fruit, drink lots of Water. Cut out most carbs.

I personally was eating like shit all the way up until my 2 week liquid diet started, so props to you for starting early!

My surgeon says 2-3 Protein Shakes (breakfast and dinner preferably), a fruit for am and pm Snacks (Apple, pear, or orange), and a salad for lunch with 6g Protein. This is for 3 weeks total.

Well I kinda want to eat like **** until I have to do liquid diet, but part of me wants a head start. I also thought of shakes for Breakfast and dinner and a food funeral for lunch everyday.

I had a food funeral for every meal until midnight of the starting day... not advising anyone do that, but I couldn't let go of my addiction until the very last moment, and even then I cheated 3 times on my pre-op diet, lost 21 pounds.

But a slow and steady approach of using shakes for some meals will help you. There is one Protein shake I really love "Rockin Refuel" and I drink 1 everyday even post-op. Tastes like chocolate milk with only 6g of sugar. Those might help if they sell them in your area.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
