12 Days Away: Liver Shrink

Recommended Posts

Insurance approved, pre op completed, 12 days to surgery date. Hello, joined yesterday. My name is Sharee. I'm on my 7th day of liver shrink. Protein Shake for Breakfast, lunch and 3oz meat, veggie for dinner with small fruit Snacks as in between meals. What the doctor ordered. I'm so hungry and it's weird because I went missing meals a good portion of my life. Has anyone else struggled during this time? It's like 12 days can't get her fast enough. I'm irritable and moody and at times weak but I refuse to not follow the diet. I want my liver to be as small as it needs to have no problems during surgery...

Impatiently waiting...

Sharee- my liver shrink is similar. We are allowed to also have all the green veggies we want - can u do that?

Yes. Well not all there are some starchy vegetables that are limited but we can only use salt and pepper to flavor. I haven't really been able to eat much... Also I noticed it's hard to get the Protein Shakes down now. Not nasty I'm just tired of them. If anybody said this was the "easy way" out they are just ignorant!

I'm on day 6 of 14 of my liver shrink diet. All I can have are Protein Shakes, any no calorie drinks (as much as I want), and sugar/fat free Greek yogurts. I'd love to have something to chew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get used to not chewing. It goes a long way post-op. I would kill for a salad. Im almost 4 weeks out. Nothing solid till 8 weeks. But hey 33 pounds down. Its not all bad :)

I' m with ShareeB, I am sooo tired of the Protein shakes. I have never been one to drink my food nor liked smoothies or reg. shakes, so these Protein Shakes from the get go have been hard. Right now I can down Protein in (on my 10th day-surgery scheduled for Aug. 10) a few gulps. My fear is after the surgery, getting all my protein in when I have to sip the Protein Shakes over time.

does anyone have suggestions or helpful tips for post surgery?

I know how you feel, my surgeon requires the liver shrink diet 3 weeks prior to surgery!!! 3 whole weeks!!! I drink my shakes but add some berries for flavor and my sanity. I have had a turkey meatball or two for snack just to keep my hunger at bay when it gets rough... But I know its worth it to stay focused. Best of luck to you!

I remember after having my lap band (I am currently preparing for a revision), Isopure ready made Protein Drinks were my lifesaver in the sipping stage. I couldn't stomach a regular Protein Shake due to the thicker consistency and I was sick of the taste. Isopure is just that, pure protein with 0 carbs and has almost a juice/sports drink taste I'd different flavors. I hope this helps you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
